Raya vs. Reya vs. Raeya
My husband and I like the name Raya (Rae-yuh) for a baby girl but are unsure of how it should be spelled. Basically, we want the least confusing spelling so that most people would pronounce the name correctly. We really don’t like the sound "Ree-uh" so the spelling Reya is probably not a good idea? Any other spellings you can think of? Thanks!!
The Top Baby Name is...
Raya
Reya
Raeya

chances are with this name your always going to have to tell people how to pronounce it. But Raya i guess would be the closest way to spell it in hopes of people getting it right

Réa. I would be wary of Raya turning into Rye-uh, like Maya and Kaya/Kaia. Reilla would also work but Réa looks pretty. Alternatively, try Ray-Anne, nickname ‘Raya’.

I know a little girl with this name and they spell it Reya. It looks the best and they don’t have a lot of problems with how people pronounce it. Good Luck!

My recommendation is ...
Raya
... the traditional spelling of a Hebrew name meaning "friend".
You might consider ...
Raya Amity
[Amity = English for "friendship"]

I have a two year old with that name, spelled Raya. I really just didn’t like Reya. I do like Raeya, and sometimes wish that I had spelled her name that way ..but Raya is definitely easiest to spell and easiest to pronounce (although as someone else warned, there are some people who assume the pronunciation is Rye-uh. I don’t really understand why, because to me, it couldn’t be more clear. It’s pronounced exactly the way it’s spelled. Ray..a).

I am pregnant and we are naming our baby girl Raya. My middle name is Rae and my husband came up with Raya before we e en concieved. we love it and never even considered other girl names.
We thought the Raya spelling would be the easiest for others to pronounce...hope this turns out to be the case because her last name (Esquillo) is hard enough for Canadians to pronounce already.

I think Rya would be good Masha.
Our Raya (Ray-uh) is now 7 months old and all the Filipinos call her Rye-uh) I assume that Ra is pronounced Rye in their language. We live in Canada and Most Canadians say Ray-a so that’s good

Hi everyone! Raya is a hebrew name and the correct way to pronounce it is rye-uh. If you like Ray-a then that would spelled Rhea or Reya. Hope that helps!

My daughter, Reya, is 7 years old. My husband and I first saw it spelled Reia on a baby name sight. My name is Audrey, and wanted to use the -rey and then the A(first letter). People usually read it and will pronounce it correctly. They just don’t know how to spell it.

My daughter’s name is Rya. I felt that it wouldn’t be pronounced properly if I used the traditional spelling of Raya. She is 8 now and loves her name. We have yet to meet another Rya.

My daughter is 10 and her name is Rhaia (pronounced ray-uh). Most people think her name is spelled Raya when she tells them her name but I think our spelling is phonetically correct as well.

Realizing this question was posed over 4 years ago,I thought I would chime in for anyone else with the same question. :) We named our daughter Raeya. I chose that spelling because I wanted her to be able to shorten it to the female spelling of Ray... Rae. I also know someone who spells it Reija and the Japanese spelling of it would be Reiya. So many fun ways to spell it. I don’t think you can go wrong. :)

My daughter is called raya. I made it up after my dad Raymond/Ray but then realised it was actually a name! Also she is half Indian so it sounds a little exotic and fits her skin colouring perfectly.

This thread has been helpful. I'm actually torn between Raeya (or possibly Raeyah) and Araeya (or Araeyah). I like both but would love some feedback and honest opinions. Is adding an A too much or does it add an exotic edge? And without an A is it too simple or just right? My name is Rachel and I'd like my daughter to have a name similar to mine but unique to her. Rae has many meanings, one being a nick name for Rachel according to the hebrew spelling.

My daughter is 5 years old, named spelled Reyah with the intent to be pronounced Ray-a and no one gets it right. People in US pronounce it RE-yah. I wish I'd spelled it Raya, as I'd seen it in my head since that's how Americans spell her name when they hear it pronounced. Her name spelling has bothered me since she was new born, the first time I was butchered. Raeya seems to cause less confusion in what I'm reading. Thought I'd share for parents out there trying to figure out how to best spell the name. Seems relative to where you life, cultural & religious influences. I've had Indians tell me I pronounce my child's name wrong since my daughter is 1/2 Indian. grrrrr

Raya is Hebrew and is pronounced RY-a. Think of the name Maya. Maya is pronounced Mye-ah. Don't get mad at people for mispronouncing. I'm naming my daughter Raiya and pronouncing it Ry-Ah. I already know people will call her Raeya...the truth is depending on country of origin there are simply different pronunciations. In Indian Riya is pronounced Ree-Ah. I know a Riya who is RYE-ah. It is just a name that goes either way and will take people time to get right.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of the name Raya pronounced as Ry-ah. I live in the US and would like a Hebrew name. Do you think I could spell it as "Rya" and still get it pronounced as "Ry-ah?"
I love 3 letter names. Also I think people may call her Ray-yah if I use "Raya."
Thoughts?

We went with Raiya for Ry-uh and so many people In the states thought it was Rae-uh. I honestly didn't expect it to be that confusing. I almost considered changing how we would spell it so I think anyway we spell ry-uh and Rae-uh some people are just going to get it wrong.
