The original is Renée, though it’s generally accepted without the accent as well. René is the boys spelling.

Rene is the male version, Renee is the female version. Both, technically, should have an accent mark: René, Renée. The name means ’reborn’ in French. (née = born). If you change the spelling to Renae, it becomes pretty far removed from its origin and meaning.

Apparently Renée is the feminine spelling in French-speaking countries, but Renee is acceptable in non French-speaking countries.

René is een franse naam, de vrouwelijke vorm is dus Renee zonder accent, want 2 e's spreekt men uit als é, dus geen accent. Ongelofelijk waarom dit zo vaak fout geschreven wordt.

René is a Frensh name, the feminine form is Renee, 2 e's is pronounced as ae (é) so in Frensh there is no accent on the ee. Not sure where the idea comes from to put an accent on ee, because it has no function.
