Promise is a bit too close to the word promiscuous. I wouldn't use it as a first name.

I know a girl named Peace. I think Promise is fine. There are plenty of names meaning "gift" and there are names like Verity and Prudence and Justice. I like Mimi better than any other nickname I can come up with.

Yikes! I'm sorry, but Promise is pretty terrible as a first name. It might work as a middle name, but it's way too much as a first name. If you must use it then at least give her a normal nickname like Romi.

I think Promise is beautiful. I would use it, but my last name starts with a P and ends with an S, so it's just too matchy. If someone who doesn't like the name Promise were to become friends with a girl named Promise, they would learn to like the name... so don't worry if some raise their eyebrows. Opinions on names are all subjective.

That being said, let me share my own opinion... :P I think for casual, mother-daughter teasing, Pom-Pom is cute, but for a more solid nickname, think outside the box. Mia, Remi, Romi, PJ (if middle name starts with J), or Prim.
