Malakai vs. Malachi

Wanting to use Kai as a nickname but I feel it doesn't make sense with Malachi even though it is the proper spelling.

Malachi, spell the name correctly.

Kai can still be a nickname for Malachi, it's the same sound.

Malachi because that is the biblical spelling . Kai can still be a nickname . It works for my friend and he has no problems with it

When I took the M off the names of each spelling & searched the pronunciation online, it said "alachi" was pronounced "Al-uh-chee" & "alakai" was pronounced "Al-uh-kye". I know that the correct spelling is "Malachi", but I'd rather not have a name for my child that could possibly be mispronounced all the time as "Mal-uh-chee". I think that is more annoying than spelling it "Malakai", which will most likely be pronounced the correct way since the name "Kai" itself is very well known, especially after the show Cobra Kai.

Just use Malachi- a nickname doesn't have to directly come from the exact letters of a name. Take Michael nn Mike or Jacob nn Jake for example. There's no K in either full name but both nicknames are perfectly acceptable.

Why not just name him Kai if that's what you plan to call him?

The little boy Kai that I know is named Malachi. You don't have to change the spelling of the full name to get Kai. Of course you can, but then you will be more likely to have to correct people's spelling. Using just Kai is simplest as it avoids the issue altogether.
