"Nate" vs. "Nath"

Hello! We have already decided on the name Nathaniel Dean for our son but today we were talking about nicknames and we are now curious which nickname is the most common shortening? We love both Nate and Nath so it's a win either way, guess we were just wondering. If you know a Nathaniel or you suddenly met one, which shortening would you automatically shorten to? Thank you so much♡♡♡

Definitely think of Nate first ... My husband, Nathanael, is adamant that Nate is the only nickname (as opposed to Nathan since it's its own name)... Though some older relatives do occasionally write his name as Nat (?)

I know two Nathaniel's, one goes by either his full name or Nate and the other goes by Nathan. I also know a Nathan who sometimes goes by Nate. I've never heard of the nickname Nath before, but I think it's kind of nice. I misread Nath as Math at first glance though.

Hate Nate, never heard of Nath but I don't like it either. How are you supposed to pronounce Nath? Like Math/Bath/Wrath, or Nay-th?

Nathan is cute though.

Never heard of Nath, and I frankly don't like it. Nate.

I love the name Nathaniel. It's such a strong classic. For nicknames, I personally would do Nate or the much rarer Nat.

I'd use anything the Nathaniel goes by. I'd pronounce Nath like Nay-th. But if I were to assume a nickname I'd think it would be Nate or Nathan. I feel like those are the most obvious
