Emily vs. Emilee vs. Emilie
We do like different spelling variations of the name Emily, but we are wondering if we should stick with the most common spelling so she is not correcting people all the time or go with the one we like the most. We would love to get your opinions on this whether you yourself have a different spelling than the original spelling of your name or someone you know. If you or them find it annoying having to correct people on the spelling. Thank you for any help we receive.

Hi - I have a name that is often spelled a few ways (Abby, Abbey, Abbie) so people sometimes think to ask, but usually just assume Abby. It is a little annoying to correct people or specify that it is spelled a slightly unusual way - mostly because I feel like I'm being high-maintenance by specifying in situations where it doesn't really matter, like where they're only writing it down once for an event or something and I'll never see that person again. I never know quite what to say. For a name as familiar as Emily, I would definitely go with the usual spelling, because no one will even occasionally think to ask.

1 Emily - Most familiar spelling
2 Emilie - French spelling
3 Emilee - made up spelling
2 Emilie - French spelling
3 Emilee - made up spelling
I do have a different spelling for my name than usual and I always have to spell it and sometimes pronounce the word because it looks like another word. It can be annoying but I'm very used to it and there's worse things in life.

Emily is the only spelling I like. The others are try hards for nothing, they are hideous. And besides spelling it differently will make it harder for her, not easier.

I always liked the French spelling Emilie best! I just think it looks nicer and I prefer the ie ending on most girl names. Emily is my second favorite. But I do not like Emilee, it looks made up and kind of tacky in my opinion. I usually don't like the ee endings.

Emily gmv. But I love Emilie too.
My name is Ann. I almost always have to correct people. Even "simple" names can be that way. It hasn't stopped me loving my name. So I'm good with just about any classic spelling. Here, either Emily or Emilie work well. What I dislike is Emilee. Good luck! :0)

Agree with FredaCat! I know a Lily what could be simpler? And yet, she is constantly being asked how to spell it... Some people just being polite or meticulous. Hey, it's better to check twice and repeat than to misspell.
I'd still prefer Emily but I really like it spelled the French way: Emilie!

I voted for Emilie but also love the Emily spelling. Not a fan of Emilee or any spelling that is made up.

^^With Emilee if I saw this alone I would almost pronounce it emmy-lee and not Emily. Because it is paired with the other two spellings is how I knew how you wanted to say it.

I know several people with unusual spellings. It seems to be about 50/50 if the misspellings bother them or not. A couple of them are immediate and passionate about correcting people. One just lets people spell it the usual way.
I'd go with Emily because that's going to be people's default and it will just make life a little easier for her. People will misspell any name, but it's one less hassle if it doesn't happen all the time.

If there's a "correct" way to spell it (usually Emily) then use it.

So this is funny- both Emilee's in my high school class were the "Lee" spelling o the end. And it actually suited them. I used to think Emily was very boring. But now I think I prefer that one. I've never seen Emilie though and feel like that's the most unique one. I'd go with Emily or Emilee.

I'd go with a different name entirely. Doesn't matter If you spell it Emily or emilee it is still an overused common name 🥱
