Maegan (This spelling) vs. Yes vs. No
I love this name and spelling. I knew about 5 girls in high school with with this name (two Maegan's, two Meghan's and one Megan) but the first two are the only two people I've met with the "Mae" spelling. I like it because it seems more unique to me than Meghan/Megan/Meagan/Meaghan etc, which I've seen lots of. (Except for the coincidence of those two with the Mae spelling.) Is this spelling pretty? Or should I go with a more common one?

I have met a Maegan and a Maeghan and both complained about how their names were constantly misspelled, so keep that in mind. Personally, if you want the name with a little flair, but something people won't screw up all the time, I'd go with Meghan.

It feels like a slightly different name. Is Maegan pronounced as MAY-gun?

Megan is the Welsh spelling and it's the only truly authentic one.
You can pronounce it that way (many people do)... yet spell it the right, normal way.

I think Megan is a name that has so many different spellings at this point that it's honestly going to be misspelled a lot, regardless of the spelling you choose. Kind of like Caitlin/Kaitlyn/Katelyn/etc. So my point is that, while I think this is a more unusual spelling, I don't necessarily think A) people will see it as super weird; or B) it will be misspelled THAT much more than a spelling like Meghan. I could be wrong haha but that's my first impression.

Maegan has a whole different pronunciation that Megan does. If you want it to be pronounced like Mae instead of Meg then I would go with this spelling. If you want it Meg I would spell it Megan, Meghan, etc. I had a family member whose name was Maegan and she pronounced it like Mae-gan. I don't know if anything I said made any sense but I hope I helped a little.

I would say this name differently as said by comment above. Mae-gen not Meg-en.
I see someone else has a poll up for a Mee-gen. I don't mind that. What do you think? Meegan/Meegen?

Maegan isn't unique or cute, just tacky. Megan is already going to be an uncommon name because it's not popular anymore so there's no need to spell it differently.

My name is spelt the way you asked about and personally (I know I'm biased) but I much prefer my spelling haha
It doesn't matter how you spell it, it will ALWAYS be misspelt. There's too many variations of the name and everyone has their own default way to spell it. I asked my mom why she spelt it this way and she simply said "it's how I thought it was spelt". And yes…it is pronounced "May-gan" not "Meg-an"…I can't stand how some people say my name. That's my biggest issue haha

Sometimes a user-friendly spelling is OK if the original is so different, as with Neve for Niamh or Keeva for Caoimhe. But the original form is Megan. Pretty straightforward. No "h," no "ae." All of the charm of the original Welsh name is lost. Good luck! :0)
