Second the idea of Lorne. Loren is a variation or diminutive of Laurence, Lorne is a name in its own right, based on the Scottish place name Lorne, possibly derived from the name of the legendary king Loarn mac Eirc.

I completely understand it was once a traditional boy's name, but it's just too attached to girls at this point. I love the suggestion of Laurence/Lawrence above though. Thoughts on that?

At the end of the day though, if you love Loren and that feels right, we aren't ones to hold you back. Just consider what your son will think about having a name that is more attached to girls these days (I would say the same to those wanting to name daughter's more traditional boy names too :)). He could shorten it to Ren or Leo if he wanted, so he would have other options if you did name him Loren. Maybe even LJ if you gave him a J middle name.

I know a grown man named Loren. There is a Loren and a Laurel in our group of friends, referred to as "Boy Loren" and "Girl Lauren." It's really not an issue unless that would bother you.

If you spell it Loren it's pretty clear it's a boy name. But I might just name him Lawrence and call him Loren. Or even Lorenzo nn Loren.
