Aurelia vs. Aurora
We have been trying to choose between these two names for quite a while now, feeling stuck and frustrated going back and forth between them unable to decide. We love both names equally and find their meanings equally beautiful (Aurelia – "the golden one", Aurora – "dawn"). The fact that their sound is similar makes using them in our daily life, as a test, not very helpful. What would do in a situation like this? Any advice would be very helpful! Also, what do you think of each name and which one do you like better? Thank you!

Maybe practice saying them out loud and see which one sounds more natural to you? Or make a pro con list?
Aurora is more recognizable, but also very popular. It has an obvious nickname (Rory) if that's a quality you like. It also is tied to both a Roman deity and a Disney princess if that would attract or deter you.
Aurelia is less common, but I've heard people pronounce this in different ways so pronunciation may be an issue. Personally, I prefer Aurelia to Aurora but I could see how people constantly mispronouncing could be annoying,

I had a friend who let her baby decide. They had the name picked but it had various nicknames. So one day she sat down and said each nickname and the full name to her baby. He consistently kicked for one of the nicknames so that's the one they ended up using. I don't know if that helps any, but it worked for them.

Not a fan of either especially Aurora. A lot of people seem to like it but sounds harsh and mouthful to me. I would go with Aurelia.

Oh wow ! Literally same, they are two of our top (which we have a lot of) names! I love both Aurora & Aurelia. Aurora have that nickname Rora which I adore. Don't really know what to call Aurelia for short, Aura? But the main difference for us, is the fact that Aurelia is much easier to pronounce and I can simply see Aurelia easier on a child. But still the baby would grow into the name Aurora so I'm not sure which one is the best !

They are both nice, but Aurelia is a little prettier sounding to me.

I've never liked Aurora, and really dislike Rory. Yet somehow I'm drawn to the very similar name Aurelia. I think most small children would struggle with saying Aurora. Lots of R's in a name can be tricky, even for adults.
Do you have any toddlers/young kids at home, or do you know any? Ask them to repeat each name after you and see what it sounds like. One name I was considering for my child was long and maybe a bit complicated. I tested it out with my son, who was 2 at the time. He actually did better than I thought he would, so I thought ok this is a viable name option. He won't totally butcher it or revert to some weird pseudo-name that's annoying. Sometimes they'll come up with something cute that you'll actually like. Anyway, that's one idea, to get a kid's perspective on it. Because you're right when you say one versus the other, there's not much difference. But there could be if you ask a toddler. How will the kids in her daycare/preschool say her name?

Toddlers are going to pronounce most names a little off or funny. I get there is a lot of R sounding in Aurora but I don't think you should base your decision off of how a child or toddler pronounces the name you wqnt. If you like the name then go for it. That's a silly suggestion above ^^ 🙄
