It Kieva for a girl or a boy? If it’s for a boy, I’d pick the Kiva spelling. If it’s for a girl, Keiva or Kieva. =) GL!

Hey folks! Since this is my name, I thought I’d offer my biased opinion ;)

Kieva is the best spelling and people rarely mispronounce my name. Also, there’s that English phonetic rule: "I before E except after C" - this might be why people found it easy to pronounce my name over the decades :)

As for the more commonly associated sex with the name? It’s a girl name that is found in several cultures around the world. So far I’ve been told that:

- it means "Beautiful" and is the female equivalent for Kyle (Handsome) in Gaelic;
- my Ukrainian & Russian friends are tickled pink that I’m named after "Kiev, mother city of Russia";
- my Japanese and Native American friends insist that my name is a variation of "Kiva" (Holy Place/ Place of Worship) & "Keva";
- and finally, one of my Kenyan friends swore that an Aunt from his family’s ancestral village was named "Kieva" ...but I think he memory was blurred from the amount of beer flowing at that Kenyan party!

So yeah, I hope you chose "Kieva" but either way, I think it’s a lovely name :)

My name is Kiva. Often times over the phone people think my name is Eva, Kiba, Tiva. Keiva and Kieva look kind of ghetto; it reminds of Keisha.

i am french my husband american we have a boy azriel and now are about to face a beautiful baby girl. we decide on kiva for the spelling it s prononce the same in french and english that way but not with the other spelling. we also happened to have an estonian last name so we thaught that the other spelling are just a little too much whem we wrote first and last together. so keep an eye on that.

My name is Kiva and on the first day of school without fail I was called Kai-va. Also, as someone else indicated over the phone people often think that my name is Teva or Eva. I always get compliments on the name.

My name is Keeva and I have yet to encounter anyone who has mispronounced my name. Actually, most people comment on how easy my name is to pronounce because of how it’s spelled. Regardless of which way you want the name spelled, Keeva is a great name! :)

I have a 7 year old girl called Kieva, we decided on this spelling as we thought the original spelling (caoimhe) would be difficult for her throughout school. But however you spell it, it is a beautiful name.

My name is Keva. I get Kevin, Keisha, Kiev, Keisha, etc. And people always think I’m black and then they see them and I am tan so then they think it’s some Hawaiian name. I would never name my child this name or any other funky name - it’s a pain to always be correcting people and telling them how to spell it. I know my mom was paying homage to my Gaelic grandfather but unique isn’t always better.

I named my daughter Keevah from KEVin and SherdAH. Most people I know love it. I think the h at the end makes it look cuter.

I went for Keiva, back in ’13. I like "Kiva" but thought people would mispronounce it "Ky·va." I went for Gaelic as I prefer the meaning. (Yes, she sure is beautiful and precious. Then I met lots of Irish folks, straight off the boat, and they informed me how wrong we spell it. But, Caiomhe is too difficult to pronounce.

A friend of mine from high school us named Kiera ("Keer-ah"). She was so frustrated that everyone said/spelled her name incorrectly, especially the first week of school!! They said "Key-air-a" as if it had 3 syllables. I’d say go for the simplest, most easily pronounced version: Keeva. GL!
