Camilla (Ka-mil-ah) vs. Camila (Ka-meel-a)

I love both Camilla and Camila and was wondering which one you prefer most. Camilla I’m guessing would be the one most people are familiar with but I also love Camila which is also pronounced differently. Because of the different pronunciations do you think Camila would just get pronounced like Camilla anyway? Thanks for your opinions, Maya.

Definitely Camilla. I’ve never heard Camila. I think Camilla looks and sounds prettier. Also, I think it’d be easier to pair it with a middle name.

Good luck!

I think Camilla is prettier

I always thought they were both pronounced ka-mil-ah. If I had to come up with another promunciation, Camila could be kam-eye-lah, but I don’t see where the ’ee’ sound comes from.

Camila is the Spanish variation and we also love the nn Mila (mee-la). Likewise we love Camilla (Milla) just as much :)

Yeah they are both really pretty, I think Camilla will definitely be easier for people to spell/pronounce though, and I’m guessing Camila will get mixed up :)

Camila with one L comes from Latin and means "the one that is present in God" you can do the following variations. Camila Valeria, Camila Valentina, Camila Charlize, Camila Isabella, Camila Francinie, Camila Jackelyn, Camila Odette, Camila Daylin, Camila Yerelyn, Camila Arianne, Camila Elisse... etc etc etc

Well... about getting mixed up with the pronouciation and spelling of CAMILA, I think that is just a matter of educating the ones around us and being different as well... My name is Jeniffer and as you can see I have double F and no double N which makes me special and different from others. I wouldn’t change my name nor I wouldn’t want to have the same exact name as others.

I’d do Camilla if i wasn’t hispanic. otherwise the name in spanish is pronounced Cami-Ya

In all Spanish speaking it’s Camila with one L the reason for that is because in our alphabet we have double LL which has a totally different pronunciation and meaning so the name Camila is beautiful but double LL Camilla means stretcher in Spanish totally changes everything like Ela is fine but Ella is not because it means her double LL changes everything

My name is Camila and I prefer it over Camilla. Most people that have tried to spell my name make it a double L because that’s the way that it is most common. It’s pronounced cah MEE lah. Also, my nick name is Cami
(cah MEE) , not Cami like a camisole. That just sounds too red neck
I also love the nn Mila or Mily

There is no reason to pronounce "Camilla" differently from "Camila." In their original languages (Italian and Spanish) they are both pronounced Ka-mee-lah. However, their Anglicized version would be pronounced "Ka-mih-lah." The extra "L" doesn’t give it the "e" a schwa sound. My name is Camila and my parents have always pronounced it "Ka-mih-lah." It’s personal preference, I suppose.

I meant the "i", not "e"

In Latin cultures that speak Castillian the "Ll" in Camilla is pronounced "shh" so if you say "Camilla" in Spanish countires that speak Castillian the name actually means stretcher like a stretcher that you take out of an ambulance. Thus being that my family is from Argentina and we speak Spanish in the Castillian dielect I was named "Camila" because it would be a cruel joke to name me "Camilla"

I personally love Ca-Mee-La. I think its easier to say & there’s a lot of nicknames for it. (Cami,Camz,Mila,Cam,etc.) I plan on naming one of my daughters Camila :) but she would have to go all her life correcting people if they pronounce it as ca-mill-ah

My daughters name is Camila(ka-mee-la) and many people say it wrong and i correct them and they then pronounce it correctly. I often get complimented on how beautiful her name sounds. We also call her Mila (mee-la) for short.
