Probably the same but I may think you’re uneducated. I intend no offense and I’m not saying you are. I’m just saying that I’ve seen someone with a baby named Sebashton before. I mean, come on.

Asalia :Ah -sal-e-yah
Asalea- probably the same as Azalea.
Disagree w/ the uneducated comment...there are many different ways to spell the same name. That’s called individuality and not vanilla!

Well like I said this was my great grandmothers name spelled Azalea but she pronounced it As-a-lee-a not Ah-zale-ya. And I really want the pronunciation As-a-lee-a even if its not spelled the same so do you have any suggestions on spellings to get that pronunciation.

I’ve seen a Hebrew variant : Azelie. I would pronounce it Aza-lee. Love the name and each variant I’ve come across. Azelia is another Hebrew version that may lend itself better to your pronunciation. Although this likely is a moot point now.

I like the name a lot and I pronounce Azalea Aza-lay-ya.

Aza-lee-a and Aza-lay-ya sounds prettier than A-zay-lea. I`ve seen the name spelled Azaleea perhaps to ensure it\’s pronounced properly or close to how you want it pronounced.

I named my baby Azalea, Havenbelle is her second name. Azalea Havenbelle..and we pronounce it as Aza-lay-ya. But everytime I tell someone her name..I would say Aza-lay-ya and they would say..ah..A-zayl-ya. Lol..so it made me confused on which pronunciation is right.

This is my daughter’s name, too. We pronounce it the American way, but it is prettier in almost any other language. Az-a-LAY-a (our Brazilian friends), A-ZAY-lee-a (British), Az-a-LEE-a (Spanish) and Atz-a-LEE-a (Italian). Maybe that’s the key to your great grandmother’s pronunciation?

My house in Sydney was named sometime between 1892 and 1910, "Azalia". I've been googling to find out the origin of the word, being different to the flower Australians know as azalea. Azalia (pronounced Az-ah-leah) is so pretty! Perhaps it was a fashionable name in those decades, could it have been a name from a poem, a songstress or an early silent film star?
