It really depends on perspective. Samantha, Meredith, Elizabeth, Isabelle, and masny of these others really do not sound snobby to me. Some of these are actually more classic and pretty. I don’t see how a name like Elizabeth is snobby.

i think that any longer-maybe sophisticated name comes off more snobbish? like i see how priscilla, giselle etc are.

I think in general french sounding names sound snobbish.

I think last names as first names sound snobby--like, McKinley, Ashton, Farnsworth (*lol* @ Farnsworth, I made that up).

Also boys’ names for girls: Cameron, Brett, Henri.

Also foreign-sounding names that have no relation to your family’s actual ethnicity: Belladonna Mariabella Frampton? hmph.

Any name that has added complexity to look more exotic than it is: Aahnnagh Maeriya Jones.

On a side note: hyphenated names and names with numerical additions: William Wilson, XVII. Jane Ogden-Chaise-Murfurd.

I don’t think Laurel is a snobbish name. It sounds cute! It’s different and less common than Lauren or Laura.

It really depends on how and where you grow up. For example, someone said Leah is a snobby name, every Leah I’ve known is trashy. My daughter has a beautiful name, Holly Ann Elizabeth. But I’ve never known a holly so to me that’s a posh name. You also have to consider last names. Eg, have you ever seen the movie the wedding singer? She would have been Julia gulia. Lol weird. And consider sibling names too. If I had another daughter and named her Molly it would just be stupid, holly and molly. Lol. As it stands we are trying for a son, to be named Isaac. So holly and isaac. Sounds nice yeah?

I love most names on this page. But in my opinion, I have two names that have always sounded snobby and stuck up to me. They are Priscilla and Gretchen. Very pretty names. Don’t get me wrong. I actually dream of naming my child Priscilla. They just sound snobby.

Snobbish names in my opinion are names people remember from high school.
-I think names do however create personal traits/characteristics that stem from our names, but mostly, the psychological synchronization with name and personality in general is completely based on opinions vs factual information.

Last names as first names for boys, definitely. Some names are okay, like Jones, Scott, Reed and Mitchell, but the longer surnames just sound snobby. I can only think stuck-up snobs when I hear the names:
Irving, Foreman, Reynolds, Whittaker, Merritt, Hendrix, Lancaster, Livingston, Caldwell, Douglas, Hawkins, etc. They especially sound snooty if they're "Mc/Mac" names: McConnell, McLeod, MacFarland, etc.

For girls, it's always the ultra-exotic names that you think sound unique and elegant but actually sound dumb. Xiomara, Esperanza, Maximilienne, Guadalupe, Antonella, Dieudonnée, Giuliana, Yukiko, Sakura, Svetlana, Aleksandrina, and Priscilla are going to sound stupid on an American child. There's nothing wrong with the names themselves, of course, but if you try to give your daughter a foreign name to look original and high-class, most of the time it will not work. Even just plain words in different languages, like Bijou, Usagi, or Étoile, are doing to sound tacky as well. Just don't do it. Be original, but in a balanced way. It's not difficult.
