Anais vs. Anay vs. Anai/Anae
I like the sound A-NAY without the ’S’ but I don’t want a name that is difficult to spell. If I use Anais will she be referred to as A-NAY-AS. If so, is that such a bad thing? Thanks.
The Top Baby Name is...

Anais is a french name, and the first few posters are correct. It is pronounced anne-ay-iss (or however you want to phonetically spell that). Also it’s suppose to have an umlaut (accent mark) over the \"i\" to indicate that you say \"ana\" and then say the i afterwards (i in french is pronounced ee) (like isabelle is pronounced eezabelle)...2 dots instead of one. That is what gives it that pronunciation. If you don\’t put on the umlaut over the \"i\" then I guess you can say it however you want bec it\’s really not the french name at that point anymore. but i think anay or aneye sounds awful, IMO, the beauty of the name is the ees at the end.

I used to work at a daycare with a child that had the name Anais but they pronounced it A-NAY. I loved the name and wanted it for my next child if we had a girl. A couple of years later we were pregnant again and my husband said if I could find an alternate spelling he would agree. Anyway I searched a baby name sight and came across Anae. we both loved it and the Hebrew meaning. Anae is now 6 and a half years old and we still adore the name. We pronounce it A-Nay.
