Heidi vs. Haydee vs. Other

Hello... My husband and I are Finnish. I love the Finnish pronunciation of the name "Heidi" which is said like "Hay-dee". Should we spell it Heidi, or will too many people be confused and pronounce it wrong? Would there be another way I could spell the name? Thanks. Sinikka & John.

Spell it Heidi. Haydee looks very trendy and unattractive. If you don’t mind me asking, do you live in Finland? If so, you won’t have any problems with the pronunciation. In the US, the HAY-dee pronunciation may be a little difficult to pull off. Unfortunately, this pronunciation also reminds me of Hades (pronounced HAY-deez) which means ’Hell’

Haydee all the way. I like it when it’s pronounced (Eye-day)... but it’s still a great spelling. It would avoid confusion with the other pronounciation. And if you’ve read The Count of Monte Cristo or Don Juan, you’ll have an appreciation for that spelling.

This is a pretty post so I’m left more wondering which you ended up choosing. Personally I would have ignored the people who claimed the name looked "trendy" and gone with Haydee. Despite how people think it looks the spelling appears in "The Count of Monte Cristo" which I am currently reading and so goes back as far as the 19th century at the very least. (So, not "trendy", not really.) I was drawn to this forum mainly because I was looking for a pronounciation guide for the name. I think I will stay with Hay-Dee as I’ve been pronouncing it in my mind since it seems there are precidents for that. Thanks, for that though I know your question wasn’t related at all. :)
