Brayden nn Brady vs. Braden nn Brady

My husband and I both LOVE the name Brayden and want to use it for our son. However, we really want to nickname him Brady. Do we have to spell it Braden in order to use Brady as a nickname, or can we still spell it Brayden and call him Brady without there being confusion?

I think you could spell it either way. I think the Braden spelling is more handsome and masculine, but either would work. Bray is what a donkey does...something to consider maybe.

You can spell it either way, but I definitely agree--Braden is much more handsome, masculine and classic. Brayden is trendy and feminine-looking. Maybe try Braeden? That splits the difference--it’s more interesting than Braden but not feminine like Brayden is. 21

I like Brayden better because Braden looks like it’s pronounced Bradden (brad-en). Go with Brayden!

First poster, we hadn’t thought of the donkey thing. I think you just ruined our love for that spelling.
Second poster, thanks. We do like Braeden better than Braden.
Third poster, Braden looks like it’s pronounced like Brayden to us, so that isn’t an issue.
Thanks. We like Braeden so far.
Just our of curiosity, can Brady be short for any other names? If so, what are they?

I think you use Brady as a nn for Bradford if you wanted. It’s normally Brad, but Brady isn’t so far off that it’s crazy. I like your Braedon idea though, that spelling is really unique. Or just go with Brady. I grew up with a kid was just Brady, and it’s never been an issue.

We like Brady, but aren’t sure he will want to go by that for the rest of his life. That’s why we’re trying to find a good, more full name. We like Braeden as well as Bradford.
