Meg short for Margaret??? vs. And not for Megan???

I love the nn Meg, but I don’t like the full name Megan. I read a book recently where the character’s name was Margaret nn Meg. I really like this idea for my daughter, but wonder if this is ever used outside of that book...has anyone else heard of Meg being short for Margaret? Also, if this turns out to work, what do you think of the names Margaret Nicole, Margaret Rachel, Margaret Kelly, and Margaret Elaine? Thanks, Tiffany.

In Little Women, Meg was short for Margaret--in fact until about the 1980’s, when Megan became popular, Meg was almost always a familiar form of Margaret

I once met a girl named Megeth. Of your choices, I like Margaret Elaine. Margaret Eleanor might be nice too.

I think it’s strange, usually Margaret’s are Marge, Mag, Maggie, Daisy or Gretta...how about Megdalena

All of the mn options are nice. I think Margaret Rachel has a very nice flow.

Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth of Little Women, were Margaret, Josephine, Amelia and Elizbeth, I believe.

Meg is definitely an acceptable nn for Margaret.I think Margaret Elaine is perfect.

Meg, from Little Women, was Margaret. It’s a very long-standing nickname for Margaret. I like Margaret... it’s underused. I like Margaret Elaine and Margaret Nicole.

Actually, that’s my name. My full name is Margaret but ever since I can remember everyone has always called me Meg.
