Oh,and before you post please, I am naming my boy Jasmine for a reason.
Thank-you! It is hard to explain my name style so I will just inform you that I DO NOT like Trendy names, highly popular names,or Europeanish names.

Excuse me this is not a fake poll!
the babies dad is of this heritage. Jasmine is a Persian name, originally a boys name until we girlatized it. Do you do that as well when someone wants to name there daughter Jayden or Tyler?

I’m sorry but Jasmine was never a boy’s name.
And yes, I don’t personally do it, on this site people who choose "gender bending" name are insulted for days on their polls.

The name Jasmine/ Jazmine/ etc has been popular since 1970 (Aladdin came out in 1990) and it’s always been a girls name.

Actually I looked it up and "Jasmin" this spelling unisex http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Jasmin.html
To the poster who says Jasmine was never a boys name. Would you say the name to Leslie,Ashley,Amanda,Lynn........Jasmine is still used for boys. Maybe not often but it is. Ive had people tell me Shinobu isn’t a Japanese name or that Daisuke is pronounced Dice-kay............Please only comment if it is not going to mean.

I looked up Persian baby names, and all mentions of Jasmin/Jasmine were female after the Jasmine flower.I don’t know that I would name a boy after a flower.

If it somehow is a boy’s name in any capacity then it has NEVER been in the top 1000.
Jazmine is only under girls but Jasmine is unisex? Whatever, if anyone wants to name their son this then they are simply out of their mind.

YES! If someone posted a poll wanting advice on naming their son Leslie, Ashley, Amanda or Lynn there would be 20+ comments on how TERRIBLE of an idea that is and how it’s a girl’s name.
Honor your husband’s heritage by picking another Persian name and save Jasmine for when you have a GIRL!

Often times when someone is writing a list of names for other people they only use what is common in America or Europe. Jasmin/Jasmine for a girl is common in America and Europe so they didn’t bother putting that it is unisex like complete baby name resources would.
Yes,Jasmine has been popular as a girl name in America but it is not known as ONLY a girl name in all of history or all of the world.

Here’s a thought: WHEN THEY ASK FOR NAMES, GIVE THEM NAME SUGGESTIONS! It is so annoying to see someone say they are using a name no matter what, and people STILL have to put their mean little comments about it. Do I like the name on a boy? Not necessarily. Does the poster care what I think? No. She made that clear. So just suggest names, and move along. If you can’t do that, then just move along.

Just because it is a flower dose not mean that is complete girl. Look at the Japanese name Botan. It means peony flower and is only used for boys.
The idea of flowers being ONLY a girl name stays in the Americas and Europe not elsewhere. How do you know the poster will not raise her son in an Asian country?

Oh my get off your soap box.
This is the internet and we’re all strangers who don’t really care if we hurt another person’s feelings on the internet- there are no consequences so we give 100% HONEST opinions and impressions about names. We’re honest whereas your friends and families might not be if you’re so in love with a horrendous name.
Obviously if the name is causing this much of a stir then it’s a bad idea.
Either way, it’s easy to sit here and tell others to move along when there are countless fights that break out on other polls as well (especially gender testing ones).

Flowers = Girls
You don’t see people naming or recommending manly names like Hunter, Easton, Weston, John, Jack, etc for a girl so why should we sit here and pretend like naming a BOY Jasmine is acceptable?!
We’re just being honest and trying to help her unborn son. Who wants to live a life of hating your name and being tortured, teased, bullied, etc?

Not sure about anyone else, but I do actually care if I hurt someone’s feelings. I would hate to see how you are raising your children, if you have nothing better to do than to hide behind an anonymous identity and be ugly to people! There are ways to be nice about things, and still get your point across. And I still think that if the poster doesn’t ask for opinions on the name, then you should just leave it alone. No soap box, just being nice.

And it’s HORRIBLE!
It’s like- just because you saw someone do something illegal and get away with it doesn’t mean it’s right/okay.

Its his middle name. Who cares! He can just tell people he doesn’t have a middle name if its that big of a deal when he grows up. I know kids who have their mother’s maiden name for a middle name. Like the kid named Connor York L. Or the kid I know named Araya Sunshine E. I guarantee most people don’t even know those kids’ middle names because they aren’t used that much. Let her use it for his middle name. It isn’t that big a deal!

Elijah Rashan is awesome. Some people were indeed rude, but others were trying to be helpful- sometimes people from other countries do not realize connotations with names- for example, someone wanted to name their daughter Summer Breeze ( from Australia), of course, in America that is a feminin product- I think some people were trying to help avoid such a problem with Jasmine.

Unfortunately some people cannot discuss or argue without getting nasty. I think most were a little concerned about the choice and wanted to voice their opinion but it shouldn’t have gotten that out of hand.
I’m not sure if you live in America or not but we are VERY, VERY, VERY focused and set on our gender roles and stereotypes.

It’s not a Persian male name at all. It’s a FEMALE name. My Persian, Afghani and Arabic friends would gladly tell you that as well. I hope you didn’t make your son look like a fool with such a feminine name.

My name is Jasmine and I’m a woman. I have never met a male Jasmine, but I have met men named Yasmin. Most being from Kosovo or Bosnia and they have told me that it is a masculine name. I know this board is old but I hope you did incorporate it in the name.
