Mixed baby vs. names?!

Okay, my husband and I are expecting our first child together and I have had no trouble making up a huge list of names. The problem is, his entire side of the family says the names I like are "too white". To clarify, I am half white and half African American and he is African American. I thought that all names could work for any race (for the most part) but apparently my names need some tweaking. So we decided we would start over. I would like for you to suggest any names that you think would work for our baby. Thanks so much, Terrell and Olivia

Forgot to mention we don’t want anything crazy like Lashawnda or something. (No offense)
I guess names like Gregory are out and names like Trey are in, though I don’t like Trey at all.

Also I forgot to say that we’re keeping the gender a surprise so we need names for boys and girls.
Sorry! I think I got everything this time lol.

what names do you like that are too "white", and what names are they suggesting?

I say it is your baby, if you and your husband like the name go with it :)

I cant think of a single name that would be good for a white baby but not for a black/mixed race one. What names were "too white" for the grandparents?

Suggestions:

Armara
Amani
Salome
Naya
Amaya
Malia
Sophia
Angelique
Liana

Tyson
Jerome
Malik
Malachi
Antonio
Issac

Is this what you are looking for?

For a girl, what about something like Amara/Amarah?

Something I would suggest you try, is Nymbler.com. If you get a couple names that you like, you can enter them as your "inspiration" names, and Nymbler will find similar names. I’ve found it to be really good at picking up the style you’re going for..

Although mainly an African name, Ebony can be a good name for white or African child. ???

Some of our favorite names were:
Charlotte, Amelia, Emmeline, and Alice
Gregory, Benjamin, Max, James, and William

They suggested names like Terrell Wyatt Jr. (no way am I having a Jr. baby), NeShawn, and Davian for boys and Lucretia, Ovaria (-n, cancer?), and Falasia for girls.
I could never use any of those names.

Thanks for the suggestions :).

Wow! I’m really shocked, it sounds like your family is a little biased when it comes to names! Your name is Olivia, do they think THAT is too white? What on earth does that even mean?! how can a name be "too white?" Name your kid whatever name that you love and they will fit it perfectly. I would say not even tell your family your choice until after the kid is born so that they can’t be negative towards it. Good luck!

After seeing your choices, and you MIL suggestions.... I say go with whatever you love. Her style is exactly what you said you didn’t want, so I don’t think you will find a name that both of you love. This is your baby, and you and your husband have to be the ones who love the name. Your MIL will love the baby no matter what and she will get over the name. She had her shot at naming babies. (Love all your choices btw, hers are horrible)

Also, she needs to understand that her grandchild is of mixed descent, not just African American. It almost seems like she is trying to "erase" the 1/4 white that your baby is.

A compramise may be you chose a first name you love, and then a more "black" middle name to keep MIL happy?

I’m Caucasian and my partner is mixed Caucasian and African American. If we have a child the girls name will be Tatum Jordan and the boys name with be Cade Harmon. Thought maybe those names I picked you might be interested in (not necessarily the middle names with the first) also we have the same first name haha.
