Emery looks the best! Love the name!

How random, Im not hating on your name choice or anything I just thought of it as strictly male. The only Emery Ive ever met was an 85 yr old man from poland. I would go with the ie spelling at the end

I think "Emory" & "Emerie" will always be misspelled...Emery looks the best anyways!

I always thought Emery was male and Emory was female. There is also Emerey. Its not strictly male at all.

I have always seen "Emery" for the girls spelling..I would just go with this one as to avoid any misspellings on her name.
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
I also just saw a Emmarey or maybe it was Emmary.

Emory/Emery is traditionally a male name. Emory looks the most masculine, Emery would be my choice as I think that is how most people would spell it. With Emerie, she might have to spell her name out all the time.

Emery. There are lots of girls with this name now, it has gotten way more popular for girls than boys at least around here. I dont know any boys with it at all.

i don’t care for the name sorry, but i would go with Emory, the name makes me think of an emery board, so i wouldn’t use the Emery spelling, Emerie just looks made up.

I am due in Feb with a girl my husband and I love the name Emerie. I just came across this spelling and really like it before we were trying to decide between Emory and Emery but now I think we will go with Emerie. I work in a pediatric office where we have two kids with the name Emory one male and one female. I really like it as a girls name.

My dads middle name is Emery and I’ve always thought if I have a daughter I would give her that name. I’m surprised to see so many others like and use the name too! Emerie is a cuter way to spell it, but I don’t if it will be difficult for others to spell

We named our son Emry. I loved the name Emery but when I asked my husband if he liked it. He said I love the name Emry not Emery. We went with Emry...I am worried it is a bit girly because those that haven’t met him assumes he is a girl. He does have a very masculine middle name so he may become a middle name kinda guy if the Emery name becomes more feminine.

I wanted Emery for a boy, but I’m having a girl. So we decided to keep the name for our daughter. The thing is.. I hate when people mispronounce a name instead i decided to spell it Emry, so there is no mispronunciation with the silent \"e\". Can I still pull off Emry for a girl name?

Emery and Emry are two different names. Emery is generally pronounced with 3 syllables, and Emry 2
I think Emry defienatly can be a girl name :)

Emory is my sons name I have only ever met or heard of males with the name. It is a German name dating back to the 18th century. The meaning is masculine,strength,home-power. Therefore you should not name your daughter Emory.

I love names that are typically male for girls. Just because someone named their boy Emory does not mean peopke cant name their girl Emery or Emerie or Emory. Im a lady and my name is Marc. Its been an awesome 27 years! I like Emerie but I do understand the spelling concern as most people think my name is Mark.

My name is Emory and I am a girl. I didn’t always love my name growing up, but I have come to appreciate it now. My parents chose it because it was an old family name. People always compliment me on my name when I have to show my ID for something. It is also nice sometimes to not share your name with countless other people. Personally, I’m not a fan of the spellings that try to feminize it like Emerie- It’s an old name and I think you take something away from its character when you do that.

Back in the day, it was a strictly male name. I have a neighbor who’s dad has that name. We decided that if we were to have a girl, yes Emory is cute. But with a boy he was afraid of people mistaking the name for Emily when heard audibly.

My daughter’s name is Emerie Louise ( aka Emmie-lou ) I have loved the name since I first heard it. My favorite quality is that like my name Morgan, it is both unisex and a surname. Also like my name I see people pause, and older people love to comment about its feminine "rebirth".
Just to me, it would seem like Emory is the most masculine way you could spell the name, but I admire unique spellings so that is why I substituted the y the -ie.
She is almost a year old and so far no one has confused it for "Emily" or "Anne-Marie" or any other similar names I feared they would.
As for the meaning not fitting a girl. I hope my daughter is everything I’m not, strong, brave, and has power over her life.

(btw LOVE Emry too)

My 10 month old son is named Emory. I chose it to be different. Only other two Emory’s I knew of were older men, until my cousins ex named her daughter Emery, spelled differently. Definitely can go for either gender.

My son is a month old and we named him Emry. I’ve always loved the name; and I thought I made it up when I was younger but I guess not lol it is a legit name. I have no idea where I heard or got it from though. I’ve had some people also tell me it sounds feminine but I don’t believe so; I do think it could go both ways for sure; although it was my only name for a boy if it was a girl I was still going to use it. It’s different and mysterious sounding and I think it fits him to a tee. He also a boy middle name so maybe will end up calling him that but I hope not. Emry Anthony.

We named our daughter Emery Ann in 2003. At that time, Emery had never been in the top 1000 names for a girl, according to the social security web site. At the time, we found the name in a book, and thought it was pretty. I was also attracted to the name’s meaning, "industrious leader." We have always received lots of compliments for her name. Occasionally people think we are saying "emily" or "ann marie" but it is easily corrected. We went with the Emery spelling because Emory looks more masculine to me, and Emerie looks too girly girly. People assume the correct spelling most of the time, so i think we picked well!!

I named my daughter Emori Grace this past June. Looks like it’s pronounced em-mor-ee but it’s just like the others, Emory, just with an I to look feminine. I love it. I almost spelt it Emri but didn’t. No matter which way someone will always pronounce it wrong but it’s okay I still love it and it won’t hurt to correct them lol

I ended up spelling my daughter’s name as Emeri. I believe this way looks moret feminine and I get compliments all the time. Most names that are unisex ending "y" are commonly males and "i" for females. I have had no problems with anyone pronouncing my daughters name either so I love the decision I made!!

I am having a girl in a few weeks. My husband and I like the name Emery. I am having a hard time on which way to spell it and also which way to pronounce it, either with 3 syllables or 2...."Em-mor-ee" or "Em-ree". I think of a girl when I hear the name. It’s a beautiful and unique name which is what we like. Any suggestions would be helpful. I’m really having a hard time! Lol

Who cares if it’s traditionally a male’s name?! My name is Jesse and I’m male. Jesse is a 100% masculine name that was corrupted in the 80’s and 90’s when people decided to name ALL their daughters "Jessica". We just named or first daughter born in 2015 "Emerie" and love the name and it’s uniqueness.

My husband is named Emory (he’s actually a III) and he gets sooo many compliments on his name. However, it’s often misheard when spoken so he will receive things he ordered over the phone (or at starbucks!) under the name Emily or Annmarie. I think it’s a fine name for both sexes, but if you want to femininze it I would go with a spelling without the "O".

My daughter is Memorie. I thought Emery was too harsh. Emery and Emorie are my favorite spellings. I struggled so much trying to decide on the spelling for her name, but I eventually went with the youneek one. I think Memorie looks much pretty than Memory. Same for Emory and Emery. The E makes it look "girlier" :) Also, her nickname is Emmy! I think it’s sweet :)

I’ve seen a couple people on this thread ask if it is pronounced with three syllables "Em-er-ee" or "Em-ree"
I have the same question! If you know, can you please answer?:)
I am having a girl in March and love the spelling "Emmarie" but it’s also very important to me that she doesn’t grow up always having people misspronounce her name. If Emmarie is pronounced differently than "Emerie" then I will change the spelling now before it’s too late.

Megan, the spelling Emmarie I would think as 3 syllables emma-rie. My daughter’s name is spelled Emery and 9/10 people say em-ry, which I prefer. It bugs me when people say em-er-y...but like I said, 9/10 get it right :)

My husband and I really like the name. But we like it pronounced Em-ry. He would like to spell it Emmrie. Do you think that spelling is crazy? I kinda hate when people make up spelling of names but at the same time I think it looks feminine and is phonemically spelled. Thoughts?

We have a son named Emry. In six years we haven’t come across anyone else with that spelling. We like how unique it is and it definitely fits him. Also I like older names that aren’t that popular. I think it’s always going to be trendy to take male names and give them to girls. Personally I like Emily for a girl way better than Emery. That spelling reminds me of an emery board.

My daughter’s name is Emery Ann. She loves her name. In 5th grade her class did projects that included researching their name origin, and she found a meaning "industrious leader." She came home beaming, "that’s me!" Over the years we’ve received many compliments, and she has always been the only Emery in her class. It was originally a German male name, but it started rising in popularity as a girls name about 10 years ago. Very occasionally people hearing her name for the first time think they are hearing the more common "Emily" or "Ann Marie."

I named my son Emory February 2015 and I have received many compliments on his name choice. It also fits his personality as aneeded energetic boy, but will sound strong and respectable as a man. Many people pronounce it Emm-ree, which we don’t mind. I like the spelling Emeri for a girl. Beautiful name, but if naming a girl beware the meaning is "strong man of the household"

My 16-year old daughter is Emmarie Jaye. It is a combination of all her grandparents' names (Emery/Emory/James "JayJay"/Marie. Wanting to incorporate all the James' and all the Maries (there are several of each), we went with Emmarie Jaye. No matter the spelling, it is a derivative of the german name, Emmerich, meaning industrious leader. but some sources will say it means brave and powerful. All very good adjectives. The only issues we find is people often mishear it as Emily or Ann-Marie, and often misspeak it as "EMMA - MARIE". She is complimented on her beautiful name every time! Her only complaint is her initials are EW. (Sound it out :-)
