Hugo can be vs. a nickname vs. for what?
I love the name Hugo! But... I want my son to have a more formal first name. Does anyone know what Hugo can be short for? It doesn’t have to be an exact derivative. (Ex. Nick is short for Nicholas OR Ben is short for Benjamin.)
Thanks!

I don’t think it needs to be short for anything.

You do something like "Charles Hugo" and call him by his middle name.

Thank you for your opinions. I know Hugo is a full name. I want to give my son a longer, more traditional, classic, first name and myself and our family will call him Hugo. Any suggestions?
(One example is a family member of my husbands has a son named Eliott that family calls Leo.)
Any help?

Although it is a full name there are some options but they are really old Germanic names.
e.g.
Hugubert
Your best bet is Hugo if you like the name. No one will say you used a nickname (unlike Ben, Nick, Max, etc.).

I agree that Hugo is a full name by itself. But I you might be able to get away with a name like Hughson, Hugues, or Fitzhugh (although I don’t really care for any of them personally)
