Alicia vs. Elisia

We’re going to name baby #2 a-lee-see-a. My husband likes the traditional spelling, but I don’t want her to have to consistently have to correct people from calling her a-leash-a, so I came up with a more precise spelling, but he’s not completely sold. Any thoughts?

I understand wanting to stick with classic spelling as it seems that everyone is getting a little too "creative" with the spelling of names these days, HOWEVER, in this case, Im totally on your side! There is NO doubt everyone will pronounce it wrong. When I first saw the post, I thought you were debating on two different names. I think Elisia looks simple and pretty enough to not worry about it looking too contrived.
As someone who ALWAYS had her name mispronounced and constantly having to correct people, I say do her the favor and go with option two!

I think both names will be pronounced uh-leash-uh.

I agree with 2nd poster. People will pronounce both spellings uh-leash-uh so might as well use the correct spelling so she doesn’t have to correct people on the pronunciation AND the spelling

When I first looked at your post, I though your were trying to decide between Alicia (ah-leash-uh) and Elisia (a-lee-see-a). I do think that Elisia is pretty and I like how you spelled it. :)

Elysia?

Elisia and Elysia will both be pronounced uh-leash-uh from time to time same as Alicia. Trying to change the spelling makes it seem like you’re just jumping on the "unique" spelling train.

Disagree with most posters here. I think that you are right. I would NEVER pronounce the "sia" sound as "sha" I think Alicia will definitely be mispronounced. I would absolutely say Elisia the way it is intended to be.
Even if the prev posters are even a little bit right, then at least you are cutting the mispronounciation in half!
(Dont like Alissja) and think your spelling is more elegant than the other suggestions. Id stick with Elisia.

either way she’ll have to correct people. it you pick Alicia, she will occassionaly have to correct people on the pronunciation. If you pick Elisia, she will have to correct people on the spelling. Pick what you want her to have to correct people on.

I knew an Alecia (uh-LEE-see-uh) growing up. It didn’t get mispronounced often...
