Gabriel vs. Gabrielle vs. Gabriele
Me and my wife are going to name our first child Gabrielle Clarissa nn Gabey but she likes the spelling Gabriel. To me (and I’m sure to at least 98% of the world’s population) at first glance looks to be [removed]-bre-elle the boy’s name. She doesn’t like the double L’s and is being pretty stubborn so I offered a compromise of Gabriele and she’s not feeling it 100% but she is coming around to it.....I think. Please help.....I don’t want my daughter to be teased. ~Henry

Gabriele would be alright (German version). Gabey looks like gabe- ee, not gab-be, imo.

She’ll get Gabriel (gabe-ree-el) the boys name all the time.
Gabriele is better, but I prefer Gabrielle for sure.

Definitely Gabrielle, or if she really wants a one l option, then Gabriela (Gabriela Clarisse?). GL!

I agree... I’d spell the nn Gaby, Gabby, Gabi, or Gabbie instead.

Agree with all the other posters Gabriel(boy) and Gabrielle(girl) and they sound different. Gabriele is ok, but prefer Gabrielle for sure. Also agree with nn Gabby, Gaby, Gabbi. Because the boy nn is Gabe, Gabey makes me think of Gabe ee. gl

You could use Brielle as a nn.

Gabriel is definitely a boy’s name. I think the one ’l’ would be fine. It is becoming more common with French names to spell the traditional ’elle’ ending as ’ele’. My sister-in-law’s name is "Gisele" with one ’l’

Gabriel is a boys name. I prefer Gabrielle but i think the one L will work.
As a French person:
Gisele is one l because it’s actually Gisèle (èle makes the same sound as elle). Gabrielle however is always spelled like this in French. You can always pick the German spelling Gabriele, but it’s usually pronounced the same as Gabriella if I’m not mistaken. GL!

Gabriel is the masculine version, Gabrielle is the feminine version.
I actually think Gabriella would be best, because it’s unmistakably feminine, and it also matches ’Clarissa’. And imo, it also sounds more Hispanic, if I’m guessing your ethnicity correctly.

Gabrielle is the feminine spelling. I think Gabriele will be confused for the boys name also. WHy is she against the doubly L? It’s how the name is spelled.
