Names like vs. Hope or Destiny

I really like names like Hope or Destiny or even Story but they are becoming very popular now and I was just wondering if anybody had anything less used. Also if you can explain to me exactly why people are saying it is bad to give your child a name that actually means something, I would be glad to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Mercy is one of my favorites.
Its a stylistic choice. Especially with a name like hope or faith,
"Gosh, I hope it doesnt snow again," or "I have faith in you" just sound awkward when its YOUR name. Some parents like it. Some dont. Some like it but dont like the mentioned issues, so use it as a middle name.
I have a sort of fascination with color names.... Besides Violet and Scarlet

SO MANY. I think those, flower names, and gem names are a great grey area between "Word" names and "Normal" names.
And EVERY name means something. If you want a name that means something, use sites like babynamesworld.com or (my favorite) nameberry.com

Thanks for the suggestions! I really like Mercy and Celeste. As for the flower/gem names, I have always loved Onyx and Magnolia nn Maggie. What do you think?

I’m not a big fan of the name Destiny... I don’t have a real reason just not my style. I do however like the names Hope and Story and other names of this style.Some other ideas you might like if you like this style name:

It is generally considered less sophisticated to use common words for names, the idea being that if you were educated about names you could choose a name with the meaning of grace, for example, instead of using the word as a name. So nothing is wrong with it, but some will assume the mother was a young teenager or hippie or something.
