How would you spell vs. N-eye-yah to get this vs. pronounciation?
A little girl in my sons gymboree class has the name Naya, said lile N-eye-yah (Maya with an n), but whenever I tell people we are concidering it theh say thatd theyd have pronounced as neigh-ya. What spelling would get us the pronounciation we want? Is Naya the best? Maybe Nyah?

I pronounce Maya May-yah and Naya the same. A little girl in my daughter’s kindy cl[removed] is Nyah (Nye-yah) and her name is always pronounced correctly. I would definitely spell it Nyah. Looks nice too.

I know someone by that name and she spells it Nyah as well :) Niah is another spelling I’ve seen

really? people pronounce Naya neigh-uh? If I heard the name Naya I would assume it was spelled Naya.

Its obviously NIGH-yuh to me, like Maya.
Naia like Gaia may work better to avoid the "AY" sound people cling to from first grade phonetics.
I personally would not create a dumb spelling just so dumb people can read it.

Pp, I was shocked by that too, but apparently thats how alot of people would say it.
I think I am going to scrap the name then. I dont want any spelling or pronounciation issues.
Naya looks prettier to me, but people will pronounce it wrong.
Nyah almost looks made up to me. And while people will say it correctly when reading it, they probably wouldnt spell it correctly if they only heard it.

Nyah is beautiful. I actually like that better then Naya. Which yes unfortunately ppl would pronounce wrong. Nyah reminds me of Hannah or Sarah...the ’ah’ is nice and doesn’t look made up. Obviously, your desicion but I’d hate to see you not use a name you love bc of peoples ignorance. Best of luck!
