Elliot/Eliott/Elliott/Eliot vs. are there girly vs. spellings?
Does the spelling of Elliot matter...like does any spelling look girlier to you? We want to use this name for my son but know of a friends friend who has a daughter Eliot. So we want to make sure our spelling isn’t "girly". And is Elliot going to the girls? I don’t want him to be the only boy Elliot with all girls with the name. Thanks

I definitely like Eliot best. I have it on my girl name list spelled like this. It’s cute and actually feminine! I know a little girl named Eliot and she’s precious. :)

Doesn’t look like they read the whole post. Lol.
I think Elliott is the manliest form. & I don’t think he will be the only boy named Elliott. I don’t think it is too popular for girls to use for a boy. It was originally a boys name...so I think if anything...people would ask if Elliott is a boy...not the other way around...

If you look at the SSA site, no form of Eliot is popular for girls at all.
On the other hand, it’s on here all the time!
I don’t know if it’s truly going to the girls, or if it’s just posters on here who like to stir up debate.
All the spellings look masculine to me, but if it’s a concern, you could use Eliot and then the nn Eli if it did become girlish.
I can’t stand boys’ names on girls, so I can never predict what momeighs will decide is "adorable," on a little girl.
I’m sure Frank and Bob will be next.

Elliette is the only one I like.
Elliot is a boys name. Hate it on a girl.
What about Elianna? Elise? Elina? Elaine? Eleanor? Elvira? Elsa? Ellie?

For your son, I think Elliot or Elliott is the best way to go. Great name...in fact I was going to ask the same question as you! Which spelling is better--and I don’t really know. Honestly, if I was going to use it (for a son), I would choose Elliott. GL!

Sorry, I misread. I’m so glad you are considering it for a boy. Elliot is the best spelling for a boy. Love it.

They all looks like boy names, imo. lol.
Never would think Elliot of any form was a girl.
Not a big fan of the spelling Eliot thought, it reminds me too much of the word idiot.

IMO, most of the "Elliot" polls for a girl are just doing them because they know they will get TONS of comments. Could be wrong, but that’s how it seems most of the time.

Okay, I think some people are confused as to what I was asking. We want to use this name for a BOY! However, we do know of a girl with this name. I want to make sure the spelling isn’t "girly". I do understand its appeal for a girl with the nn’s Ellie and Ella. We will call our little man Elliot or Eli (E-lie).
I think from the few people who actually answered my question Elliott seems to be the way to go. Thanks.

Elliot or Elliott are great. Eliot just looks wrong, lol.
Don’t worry about girls with the name, its in the 200’s for boys and not even in the top 1000’s for girls from SSA in 2009. I’m not sure if the 2010 list has come out yet.

yes there are "girly" spellings, but this is a boy name, use whichever spelling you prefer for your boy, your friends friend has a girl with a boy name, i would say there are a lot of people who are naming their girls Eliot, but it’s still a boy name. your son won’t be teased, the girls will

Girls don’t tend to be teased for having "masculine" names. Boys get teased. I know more girl Elliots then boys and feel that that is the way the trend is heading. I think it will be a name that it is okay to use on either sex like Jordan.

Elliot will always be a boys name. It’s not unisex. It’s not a girl’s name. The "Elliot for a girl" polls on this site are out of control. I think it’s the same people posting over and over. I’ve never heard of a girl Elliot in real life.
I like the spelling Elliot the best (it’s what I used for my SON). Eliot looks wrong to me and Elliott is just too much.

I think MOST of the Elliot for a girl and boy names on girls polls are fake. Sorry, but it’s rediculous. And only seems to be a trend on THIS website.
And it’s VERY hard to believe that people know SOOO many girls Elliot’s when it isn’t even in the top 1000 names. lol.

Funny that people think the "Elliot" polls on here are fake. I have posted one myself as I am considering the name for my girl that is due in August. I did find the name originally on this website, but have found since then that there is a female doctor on Scrubs named Elliot, a girl is named Eliot Makenna on Quints by Surprise and also Sting’s daughter is named Elliot (that is in her twenties). So whether or not some of these polls are fake, there are, believe it or not, FEMALE Elliots of the world. Google it!
And I still very much like Elliott for a boy, I would go with two L’s and two T’s though.

Elliotte is going to be the middle name of my little girl. Definitely NOT just a boys name.

I find it strange that so many BOYS names are being continually chosen for girls names, it’s not like there’s a shortage of great girls names while the number of good boys names is pretty limited. Maybe parents wanting to name their Elliot/t really wanted a boy after all?

Greys Anatomy had an Eliot for a girl, but in the show they explain that her father really wanted a boy and thus gave her a boys name. Just saying.

I saw on a new website www.parenting-checkpoint/baby-names/Eliot that Eliot is the "smartest male name". Eliot is 8.3 times more likely to study at Harvard than an average person.
