Charlot looks like it’d be prn Sharlo. No, keep the spelling Charlotte. The others don’t work. And your daughter will thank you for sparing her the headache of having to correct everyone. It’s a beautiful name! Don’t change it!

This is tough. Charlott just looks like a typo. In fact, when I type it, my computer automatically adds an e to the end. Charlot and Charlott looks like they could be the names of medieval towns. Charlett and Charlet look like brands or something. Charlotte is such a traditional spelling that anything else looks ridiculous and trashy.

There are some names with multiple spellings that all look classy, but Charlotte is not one of them. Anything else looks tacky and quite terrible.

Id have to say use the traditional spelling or scrap the name all together. Those other spellings do not look good at all. Make me think of a 6 yr old naming her doll and misspelling the name. Any other spelling will look like a typo I think. Sorry

I agree with the above poster, I would assume Charlot was pn Sharlot (like how Merlot wine is pn Merlo) and I would pn Charlet as Shar-lay (like Ballet).
There’s some wiggle room with the way Scarlet/Scarlett/Scarlette is spelled, but I don’t think it extends to the name Charlotte. I would spell it correctly of choose something different.

The first 2 are definately ways of spelling Charlotte i searched for it on a website.

What is it about the spelling of Charlotte that you don’t like? Whatever your reason is, it’s something personal that is exclusive to you. Most other people would not have a problem with the spelling, though they would have a problem with the other ridiculous spellings that you listed. I’d either get over the spelling issue that your have or choose a different name because your daughter does not deserve to have a tacky looking name because you don’t like the spelling.

You can find anything online if yoy look long enough. I actually found a site that listed Aliviya as a valid spelling of Olivia.

I dont like the spelling Charlotte because back in school i had a very daunting experience with that name that scared me stiff and scarred me for life. But i still love the name. Now please stop critisizing my spellings and just tell me which you prefer.

Charlot and Charlott may be ways for spelling Charlotte, but for what country? In what part of the world are people spelling this name differently? Did you find this from a viable source? These are all spellings that most people would look at and say "yuck." I know you like the name and want to be able to use it and want to be able to convince yourself that these alternative spellings are acceptable alternatives, but they really are NOT.

I think that’s kind of strange that you would still use the name after having a scarring experience. Other than the spelling, it is the exact same name. Sounds the exact same every time you say it. If your going to use the name despite the experience, I don’t get why you just wouldn’t use the spelling too, instead this girl you had a bad experience with is further molding your life by forcing you to have to choose a tacky spelling for your daughter.

If I have to choose one, I’d go with Charlet. Charlott looks like a typo. Charlett also looks like someone left off the e.Charlot looks like it could be said shar-lo. Have you thought of Charlette? It looks much more complete than the others.

I wouldnt call her Charlotte or which evr way you want to spell it. I would call her Charlie.
posted by Poll poster :: 14 years ago | report
If you are going to use a different spelling, I like Charlette.
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Charlize is also a pretty name where you could use the nn Charlie and it would not remind you of anything negative.

Dont feel bad poster Seems like no matter when I post on here I always get someone who cant seem to be constructive. The names dosent make the baby the baby makes the name. It will most likely be the coolest "charlot" at school and inspire everyone to spell their names differently. :)
Dont be boring.

You wrote "please tell me what you think"...that’s what they’re doing. I like Charlette or Charlize. Or, just go with Charlie.

I would have to agree with the above poster. Most posters are being constructive even if they do not like the options. Don’t ask what people think if you can’t take the truth.

There’s a difference in stating your opinion and being rude.

I like Charlette.

I think it’s ridiculous that you people would be so judgmental and [removed]y to someone who wants to use a traditional, strong, beautiful name with a non-traditional spelling. It’s not your life, don’t be a dick.

I go by the name Charlette because I Liked The Spelling Better But At One Stage I Went Under the Name Charlotte. I Have accepted That People Will Automatically Write My Name As Charlotte If They Have Not Seen my Name before. Tell Us Your Eventual Decision.

Go for Charlet its my name true!

I like charlet. I also like how you are thinking outside the box, and not going with the original spelling. So what if everyone is criticizing? It doesn’t matter. Go with Charlet and everyone else, it’s not your life, so don’t act like its a crime not to follow these so called rules of what to call your child.

The only way to spell Charlotte is Charlotte. It is an old, classic name. Anyone who misspells it is disrespecting the name and its history-end of.
posted by Charlotte :: 10 years ago | report
Start a new "history"...Your own "history"... I like Charlet. I got on here because I have a new granddaughter to be born in March and I was looking for imaginative ways to spells Charlotte as that’s the name her parents have picked. But we want her to be unique (and there is nothing wrong with that!). Thanx :)

I like the name Charlotte, but I do think alternate spellings might spice it up a bit. I suggest Charlet, Charlette, Sharlette, Sharlet, or Charlete.

I was named after my uncle Charlie so my name is Charlette. I like it until my southern family and friends say it. Then it isn’t pronounced correctly.

I love the name Charlotte, I haven’t figured out how I would spell it either. It would have been Charlotte or Charlette. My oldest is Savannah, and I loved the idea of Savannah and Charlotte. Its on my list of baby names in case I have another girl ;) I do agree with most of the comments on here, that keeping the traditional spelling as much as possible is prob best. I know when I’m in the store and I see a name tag that has the most confusing spelling, its frustrating, and the first thing I think is "why couldn’t their parents just spell it normal" lol but to each their own, that’s just my opinion :)

One thing I request from ppl when it comes to my kids, is to ask permission to "nickname" my child by shortening their name.. like Charlie or Charley, IMO that completely ruins the name, and I politely ask ppl not to do that.. family or friends. My children have long names, but its still their name, and it meant alot to me and my husband to pick their names.

Im sure when they are teenagers they will pick whatever nickname they want hahaha ;)

My daughter’s name is spelled Charolette. I loved the name but didn’t like the traditional spelling because I did not want people calling her "Lotte".
