I think Ahva is too confusing, it looks like it would be pronounce Aw-va.

Ava is beautiful though!

Ava is better....if I was gonna spell it any different I would sspell it Aiva, Aeva, or Aava. But I think Aava has too many A’s. Are you looking for mn’s?

Ahva looks less complete to me, as though it’s not the name Ava, it’s something else with some letters missing.

No, it is pronounced AH-va. Aava I guess might be ok. Do you think it’s better than Ahva? I could maybe convince him of Aava instead of Ahva, since they’re both 4 letters.

Thanks for your help!

You want it to be pronounces Ah-vah? Not Ay-vah?

It’s just in America that it’s said AY-va. I’d never heard that before I came on this site so I looked it up.

Anyway, I’d go with Ava. Ahva looks too confusing and Aava looks like a misprint. GL!

Ava is pronounced AY-vuh
Ahva would be pronounced AH-vuh.

How are yall wanting to pronounce it? I’ve never heard of a name pronounced AH-vuh.

It’s AY-va in England too, possibly in other places too.

Avva might be read by people as AH-vuh.

Sorry for the confusion everyone. Ava is pronounced AH-va. I’ve never heard it said any other way. Ahva and Aava would be said the same. It’d be like the name Aaleah where the double A makes an AH sound. All these different spellings seem to have different pronunciations too. Aeva/Aiva= EYE-va, Avva= AV-ah. So we’re not looking for another pronunciation. Just AH-va. Thanks again!

You are wrong, wrong, wrong! Ava is NOT Ah-va, it is Ay-va!!!!!!! U were the confused one!I would no! My cousin and my sister are both named Ava

Where do you live? I have never heard Ah-va.

I think Ahva is probably the closest you’re going to get.

Ahava (ah-hav-ah) is ’Love’ in Hebrew - you could nn her Ahva?

pp just because your relatives are named AY-va doesn’t mean that’s the pronunciation. My sister’s birth name is KRIS-tin-ah spelt Kristina, but that doesn’t make it the pronunciation of Kristina.

Anyway, I think Ahva looks terrible. Aava might be better because people will understand you want a different pronunciation than Ava but it doesn’t looks so bad.

Hey I’m naming my daughter with the pronounciation of ah-vuh also. The spelling Ava is pronounced both at-vah and ah-vuh. I understand people have heard the ay-vah pronunciation. But it works for both. Honestly I’m not sure if I’m going to spell it Ava or Ahvah.

Oops I meant ay-vah not at-vah

Attempts at Phonetic Name Spellings should follow familiar English words for clarity or submit to traditional spellings for the same reason.

Ava (traditional)

Alternative Spelling Examples:

Auva
(auto, authentic, audible, august, author)
Au is consistent & predictable.

Ahva
(ahchoo, ahistorical, ahoy, ahimsa, ahilud)
Ah is awkwardly unpredictable for either the vowel sound or accent.

My daughter's name is spelled Ava and pronounced Ah-va. I wanted Ah-va. In America it is produced Ay-va. Being American I looked for alternate spellings. I was unable to find an alternate spelling that we liked. So we spell it Ava. We tell people it is a foreign name. Therefore, pronounced ah-va.

It is produced Ah-va in Australia, Canada, and Bulgaria.

I would to see you name her Ava and pronounce it Ah-va as well. The more common it is; the less people will fight it. Hopefully one day. American schools will ask "is that Ay-va or Ah-va.

Hey, I like the spelling.

Ahva looks Middle Eastern & is spelled like the baby boy name Ahmad.

Ahmad is pronounced AH' modd.
Ahva should then be AH' bu.

My name is Ahva and I am not sure how everyone confuses Ava and Ahva together. its not even that difficult to read and sound out. im not sure how people use Ahva for Ava. they are pronounced differently. Ahva is overall better.
