I think the middle name short be kept fairly short and simple, so as not to detract from the beauty of Penelope :)

I don’t think the nicknames Poppy or Pippa go with Penelope. But I also don’t like the nickname Penny. What about Nell or Nellie?

I don’t like the name Penelope at all. Can you imagine a kid at a high school named that without getting teased? What if she is the biggest tomboy ever? If you really want to use it, I would go with the nickname Nell/Nellie because Poppy/Pippa don’t go with the name.

What are you on about? People called Penelope don’t get teased for their name! It’s not a ridiculous name at all. Maybe you are illiterate and think it is really pronounced Peen-Ell-Ope. It’s Pen-ell-oh-pee. And so what if she’s a tomboy?! She can go by Pen. If nasty bullies want to add the letter ’I’ and ’S’ to the end, let them.

Very glad you liked my suggestions! I am shocked to see so much hostility to what I think is a great name, but it is similarly nice to see that some people are standing up for your (and my, I suppose!) decision to call our daughters Penelope.

I’m from the UK, infact I live here (UK) and it is NOT a common name at all, I have never heard anyone other than Americans called this name. I don’t know where you got that from.

What are YOU on about? Penelope sounds like a Disney name, I’m sorry if you do not respect my opinion.
I like Disney btw. I just don’t like the name, and I know how cruel high school kids can be.

Trixie here again. Coincidentally, I am also from the UK. Herts, actually. (I wasn’t aware that so many Brits use this site - cool!) Seeing as there are 60 million something Britons, some of them have got to be called Penelope. Uncommon-ness makes a beautiful name even more special IMO. If you hate the name so much, stop commenting on these poor people’s poll - they only wanted some help.

Hi from Australia. I love your choice of name, I’m a Penelope Jane. Just wanted to reassure you that I’m now 39 and have never been teased for my name. I generally go by Penny, but think Nelly variations are great too. Just one thing to note with Nelly - I find people often don’t know that Penny is short for Penelope and imagine it would only be more confusing. It’s not a huge problem, but often enough to be a mild annoyance. Good luck with the search, but Jane would be a great and often complimented choice!

I’m pregnant, and my husband is stuck on this name. I love it too, just am having a hard time with the middle name. Messing around with my sisters (all 8) I’ve came up with either Penelope Renee or Penelope Faith.

My great grandma Harwood is from England, very proper lady, named Penelope. Anyway, Penelope is one of my top names. I think I’ll go with Kathryn (after an aunt) as the middle name.

I’m naming my Daughter Penelope TOO!! I love the name we are actually calling her Ella, (her little cousin came up with it PEN-ELO she says ELA PE lol, So we got ella out of it :)

We are going to name our daughter (#3, I have all girls) Penelope. We decided to go with Olivia as a middle name. Good choice. I wasn’t sure about it at first but I came around. Thinking of a nickname as Penn, so it’s something different.
