If it is too weird please suggest other spellings but Elle (Ell-ee) doesn’t change. You’re comments are much appreciated. Thanks- Courteney and Scott!!!!!

If it is spelled Elle, I would think her name would be Elle (Ell) and a nn would be Ellie (Ell-ee).

Elle is (Ell).
Ellie is (Ell-ee).
So, I think yes, it’s a little (not weird, but) confusing.
Personally, I would go with ...
Eleanor nn Ellie or Elle
Elaina nn Ellie or Elle
MAYBE...
Elle (Ell) nn Elley (Ell-ee)?

I agree--most people will think that with that spelling she’s El. If you want her name to be Ellie spell it that way. I knew a girl named Elle (El) and she was called Ellie (like the other poster mentioned). I’d say if her "given" name is Ellie (sp however you like although I think the "ie" makes more sense) then her nickname’s spelling could just be El.

I agree with everyone else - if you name her Elle, you will have a lot of trouble convincing people to pronounce it Ellie. Mainly because Elle is an actual french word that pretty much everyone knows and is pronounced L. You won’t be able to retrain the entire population, even if you want to.

Her name is definitely Elle (Ell-ee) but I don’t think Elle is a good nickname. Can you suggest other spellings or nicknames for her. Thanks!!!!

Not to be rude, but I think all possible spellings have been suggested. Ellie, Ellee, Elley, would be Ellie. Elle is just el. Ellie is already short enough as it is, so if you don’t like Elle as a nickname, there is really not much else, unless you do Ella. Please don’t continue with the Elle as pn Ellie. No one will "get" it, and it will always be mispronounced.

See, even when you say, "Her name is definitely Elle (Ell-ee) but I don’t think Elle is a good nickname." it’s confusing!!!
If she’s Ell-ee then spell it Ellie. Then figure out the nn later!!!
OR
go with a longer given name with the nn Ellie or Elle (pronounced 2 different ways!!)
example: Elliana nn Ellie, Elle, Ana, etc.

Poster, the name Elle is not pronounced like Ellie. It just isn’t. You can’t just change how the name is pronounced!

But no one else would and since you posted, I think that’s important to you. Just spell it Ellie or else she’ll spend the rest of her life correcting people.
