I would stick with the traditional spelling of Emily. You would still be honoring your friend but your daughter would have her own name. The only other spelling I like is the French version Emilie. GL.

I’m just a bit worried that Emily is a bit TOO popular. I guess that problem could be solved with a more unique middle name. Emilie is a good suggestion, but where I live it isn’t pronounced like Emily which I want it to be. The only other variation on Emily I think would work is Emelie, but somehow it just looks a bit odd to me. - Poll Poster

Definitely Emily because where i live, in England, Emely wouldn’t be pronounced Emily. It is very embarrassing when the teacher says your name wrong and people miss interpret it. Also she will have to put up with people always spelling it Emily and having to correct them- Emily is much more pretty aswell. Emilie is very pretty too and i would strongly consider it because it is actually my favourite way of spelling Emilie.

Honestly, having a popular name isn’t really that big of a deal. Occasionally your last name will have to be used but it’s not the end of the world.
