The Spelling vs. of Reece
Hi. I have always wanted to name a baby girl, Reece. I have only known three "Reece"s’ in my life, & all have been girls.(All spelled differently.) Yet, on this site, it is considered a "boy’s name". Also, everyone has said, that "Reese" is the girl spelling. Why? To me, it looks like, "Reese’s" the candy. Also, just the sound of Reece sounds girly to me. Please tell me what you think of this name. (BTW-the spellings of Reece i have known(girls) are: Reece, Reese, and Riese. )

I love the name for a boy or a girl. Besides Reese Witherspoon, I only know two others with this name. A 28 yr old male spelled Reece and a 1 yr old girl spelled Reese. I think traditionally those are the ’boy’ or ’girl’ spellings.

Everyone says Reese is the feminine spelling because that’s the way Reese Witherpoon spells it. But it is a family surname for her, so it’s really not a case of feminine vs masculine. If she spelled it Reece, everyone would say that was the feminine spelling. It’s cute for her, but it makes sense because it IS a family surname. In general, I don’t honestly love it for a girl. But if you do, I can’t see that it makes much difference how you choose to spell it.

I agree with the first poster. I consider both Reece adn Reese girls spellings and Rhys the male spelling. Riese just looks weird.

Hi everyone, poster here-
Just to clarify, I didn’t choose the name after Reese Witherspoon. So, I am not basing the spelling off of her, thanks for your help!

I don’t think the spelling really matters..its just what people prefer. I prefer Reese for a girl but it’s your baby you decide!

Reese Witherspoons "real" first name is Laura.
If I saw Reece or Reese Surname my first instinct is BOY, not girl.
I’m not a fan of it for a girl, but if you do, than use it and stop worrying what others think. Goodluck!

I really like the name Reese on a girl. I’ve known two Reece’s in my life and they’ve spelt it like <--- that. But they have both been boys so I consider Reese the feminine spelling for the name.
I think Reese or Reese are great spellings. Love the name for either gender!

I think Reese is the better spelling in general, for either gender. Reece does look more rough though. Maybe that’s why people think that is the boy spelling.

My son is named Reece....at the time, I had never heard of the name. I teach school, so that is how I always based popularity of names. After we named our wonderful son Reece, the name started popping up everywhere. Obviously, I prefer the name for a boy...but no one can deny the beauty of the name! Whatever you decide to name your sweet baby will be wonderful! Best of luck to you and your little blessing!

My son is Rees David. He went to school with two other boys named Reis and Reece. I like "Rees" because its simple and it spells Seer backwards which to me implies a mystic quality.

My Sons name is Reece, and we decided this name the day he was born! The reason our kids habe names that can go either way, is because we didn't want to know the gender.

And Jordan

My name is Reese and I now have 3 kids and quadruplets with the oldest being named Reese Jett Pierson (boy,13), Hunter Tailee Pierson (Girl, 11), Tallon Crosby Pierson (boy,8), and our Quadruplets are named Colton Miles Pierson (boy,4), Huxley Collins Pierson (boy,4), Kaylee Tate Pierson (Girl,4), and finally youngest Canon Javier Pierson (boy,4)
We named our kids uniqley because me and me husband Chase belive our children our our one of a kind so we found unique names we fell in love with that we know would suit them in the early life, and we know if Kaylee or Hunter are EVER going through a hard time at school or home and army of brothers are there to save them!

My mama named me "Reece" in 1997 and as a kid I remember even loving my name because I hadn't met any other friends or classmates with it - whatever spelling is used, I believe the child and others will love it. I'm a male and my mama used a "c". I never met another "Reece/Reese/Rhys" until college and they were always girls and recently just met my first male reece spelled the same
