Help with girl Name vs. Misha/Mischa!
So first of all, I want to name my baby girl Mischa/Misha. My first question is would you think it was a boy? I’m Russian and I know that’s a boy name, I just really love it for a girl. Secondly, do you have any pronunciation issues? Which one is clearer to pronounce? Lastly, I want to know which spelling you prefer. Please suggest some middle names! Thanks!

Isn’t Mischa the more common spelling? I would not assume boy or girl - I do think it sounds very feminine.

I went to high school with a girl named Misha. But one of my favorite actors is a boy named Mischa. I think in the states it’s works for a girl better but in Russia probably better for a boy? It’s a cute name either way and I like it for either boy or girl. GL! Oh and I prefer Mischa but Misha may be more feminine spelling.

Well first off, I prefer the spelling Mischa. I definitely think it’s a girls’ name. I would pronounce it Mee-sha, but when I first saw it (on Mischa Barton,) I thought it was pronounced My-sha, but I prefer Mee-sha.

I like the name! Very spunky and exotic
While I’m aware its absolutely a male name in Russia, outside of there I think people would be a little weirded out by a boy with such a feminine name
Mischa is my preferred spellingm though you may get a couple of prn and spelling issues with it

My daughter’s name is Mischa (7 years old) and her mother is Russian and doesn’t rally care what other Russians may think. My Wife pronounces the name Meesha and I pronounce it with ah "I" as in Gift.

I love it as Mischa for a girl. It has mystery. Just like Sasha is a masculine name in Russia, it’s often used for girls in English speaking countries. I applaud your individuality! Maybe balance it with a traditional middle name to give her options down the road. Best of luck!

I’m Michael. Misha is Russian given name and means not full form of name for boy, it’s only short boy name in childhood from Mikhail in Russian. My daughter is Misha and it’s not common, but it’s full name for girls in European countries, but with accent to "a". Mischa or Misha. Funny! Of course origin is Misha, Mischa came from not correct pronunciation of Russian word Misha by foreigners. Transcription of Misha is like Mee-sha as in SHArk, foreigners pronounce as Mee-sh-ya or Mee-scha. So Mischa appeared as incorrect form of Misha
