Austin vs. Austen vs. Austyn
Despite neither of us actually living in Texas, Austin happened to be the place my husband and I met, reunited a year later and started dating, and later the place he proposed to me at. The city holds a special place in our hearts because of this, so we decided that we would name our first child Austin. Now that we know we’re having a girl, we still love the name, but were wondering if maybe we should spell it differently to make it more feminine, given that Austin is typically a male name...?

HATE it on a girl, and I find no place where it is even listed as a unisex name---I do see Austine and Austina which are MUCH better.

Regardless of what others have said I grew up with a girl and her name was Austyn Faith and her sisters name was Houstyn Elizabeth... She went by Austin and her sister went by Liz. But she LOVED her name and I think that if a name holds special meaning to you use it... Just make sure to use a feminine middle name for her so it evens out :) Good luck.

I love Austin for a girl! I would leave it as is to avoid constant mispelling and to reflect the city that you are naming her for. If you are really wanting an alternate spelling, I like Austen , as in Jane Austen who is a strong literary figure...that could make it a bit more feminine.
Spell it Austin but use it as a middle name.

I agree with above poster. Use Austin as a middle name that way she will still be named after the meaningful location but won’t be confused for a boy.
