Elijah For a girl? vs. Yes vs. No
I absolutely adore the name Elijah but I just found out I’m having a girl & I feel Elijah, while being a boy name, may still be femine enough for a girl. Even more so, paired with a extra Girly middle name (suggestions welcome)... Please tell me you honest opinions but don’t be rude about it, please.
Thanks,
Molly & Dave

Well I know people who have named their daughter Elliot. I think Elijah is softer sounding then Elliot so why not. I personally love the name Elijah and am considering it for my son. Nn will be Eli. I recommend giving your daughter the nn Ellie

OH MY GOSH...I will tell you the truth. People need to get over this boy name used for girl stuff. This is originally a boy name. Read the story in the bible, dates back to thousands of years ago. Elizabeth would be a great replacement. Use Elijah if you ever have a boy, and if you don’t ever have a boy, your DAUGHTER will thank you that you didn’t pin a pretty popular boy name on her. This is ridiculous. Are ANY boy names safe anymore? WTH?

I agree with above poster "Are ANY boy names safe anymore!"
This is a boys name. I hate when people are super rude on these posts so I don’t want to be rude. I LOVE the name Elijah for a boy. My hubby and I thought about it for our son. But, I hate hate hate names that people use for girls that are really for boys.

Oh, not to mention, an extra girly middle name won’t make a difference, because who the heck really knows the kids middle names anyway? What about Aja? Pronounced like Asia? Soft J. Elijah is not femenine in the least, and if you look on the Social Security Popularity of the name Elijah for BOYS, it hasn’t left the top 100 for a very long time. You daughter will be the odd one out with this one. The story of Elijah in the bible is a very popular one, and I suggest you read it before deciding. You’ll especially look strange if you go to church, and tell people your daughter is named Elijah. Give her a name that is maybe similar, but still a girls, and doesn’t date back thousands of years as a very strong mans name. GL.

Not a good idea. Elijah was No# 13 most popular BOYS name in the US last year (that’s nearly 14,000 boys). Do you want your daughter to be embarrassed when being mistaken for a boy all of her life. A parent should want to make life easier for their child not give them grief. Keep Elijah for a son.

Thanks everyone. I actually have 4 daughters already. Elaina (6 - Nn Ella), Elisabeth(15 - Nn Elli), Evelyn (Nn Eve) & Emily (10). I was really hoping for a boy since this will be my last child but of course it’s another girl!! It’s really hard choosing another E name when I already have so many.
Thanks again for all of your input.

3 cheers for poster #3/5! Well said! I truly hope you take the good advice. Please, please don’t name your daughter Elijah! Nothing screams we-wanted-a-boy-but-got-a-girl louder than you naming a baby girl Elijah. I don’t think that’s the subtle message you want to send the world or her. Beautiful girl E names are plentiful...please look into them.

Elijah is definitely boy! Elia is a feminine form of Elijah.

Elliya (Ell-i-ya) gives nearly the same sound as Elijah. I can see why you love the name, but it really is a masculine name.
