Ella vs. Ellie vs. Elle
are ALL of these names insanely popular? Is one least popular? I have loved the name Ellie since I was a little girl, but it has gotten soo popular since I’ve become a married adult that I’m not sure I want to use it anymore. People that use popular names for their kids, do you have any regrets?
The Top Baby Name is...

I like Ella. I find Ellie very nickname and Elle seems incomplete. I don’t know anyone with these names but look around you. I was born in 91 and named Brittney I’m sure you can see the issue I hate my name to this day. no one ever spells it right and there are at least five around me at all times.

Ella is the only one that’s ridiculously popular... Elle isn’t really common at the moment. I think Elle or Ellie are actually pretty than Ella anyway. There are other names that you could use that would have the nickname Ellie.
Eleanor (obviously)
Elena
Ellen
Estella (this is my all time favorite name, but I envision shortening it to Ellie)
I am a big advocate for not giving children an extremely popular name. I had the #3 most popular name for my year of birth (even though the slightly less popular spelling)... I knew many other girls with both spellings. I always had my name called with my last initial in school and I hated it. I would much rather have had a more unique name. I know a lot of parents don’t seem to care, but I think that’s wrong. Some names I love have definitely been ruined for me because of this, but it’s not that hard to find new favorites that won’t make your child one of three in every class.

Don’t you hate when this happens to really nice names? Yeah, they are all super popular. I know just as many Ellies as Ellas. Fewer Elles, I suppose, but they are SO similar, does it really matter? They are essentially the same name. I also think it’s a shame when a child has to be called by their first name and last initial in order to be distinguished from all the others with the same name.

I feel Elle is least common, than Ellie, than Ella. I find Ellie the prettiest. If you love it, use it! Who cares?

Our daughter’s name was traditional but not very popular when she was born. That is exactly what we were looking for in a name. When she was about 6 months old, there was a TV show with character of the same name. Her name began to get really popular after. I hear her name everywhere we go and see it on the polls all the time now. Much to my dismay. If I had known then what I know now, I’d have chosen a different name. At least you have the benefit of knowing ahead of time how popular the name is. I’d keep looking if it was me.
