Ozzie vs. Ozzy
Okay, before the negative comments start to roll in, I would just like to say that when I was younger, we had a terrible house fire, and my father and brother parished. The fireman who helped save my life was named Oswald. We kept connection for years and then one day we just stopped. 7 months ago I found out that he had passed away from cancer.
I think the name Ozzy/ Ozzie is really cute & means more to me than you’ll ever know. I just want to know how you think I should spell it?

I’m sorry about your father and brother! Have you considered using Oswald itself? Ozzie/Ozzy seems more of a nickname. But in any case, I think Ozzy looks nicer.

I agree with pp about it being a nickname, have you considered Oscar, Osmund, or even Osbourne? I also agree that Ozzy is my favorite spelling!
No matter how you spell it (or if you use it as a nickname), your son will definitely have a wonderful meaning behind his name!

I think Ozzy looks better, but I also think it should be a nickname. I like Oscar!
How about Oz nn Ozzy?

I think Ozzie is better but too nicknamey. I work at a school with a kid named Oziel who goes by Ozzie but he gets made fun of a lot. Oscar is a good choice so you can call him Ozzie but he doesn’t have to go by it at school. Although Oscar the Grouch might have some teasing abilities too. Maybe you can go with an O first name and a Z middle name, like Oliver Zane/Zachary or something? Then you can go with OZ as his initials.

My little boy is named after his two grandfathers, who are James and Oswald. But we wanted to call him Ozzie (and I much prefer the ie to the y - cuts down on the Ozzy Osbourne stuff and just looks classier). So - we could not name him Oswald James because his initials would be O.J. and Oswald really is a pretty godawful name. So he is James Oswald but he is always called Ozzie. Have you had the baby yet?

Oh, this is the same poster as above - he is never teased about his name - people love it and remember him because of it.

My name is Osvaldo, I prefer to go by Ozzy...I decided to throw my two cents in because it drives me crazy when people use IE to spell my name.
I understand this post was from 2 years ago, but I googled "Ozzy/Ozzie" and this post came up...I can only pray this message will get to someone else that is curious how an "Ozzy" would like someone to spell their name.
I personally feel names can’t be classy or non-classy, if it’s how someone would like to be referred to, it’s just the way it is. No one should feel pressured to change the spelling because they are worried how it will look to others.
Changing the spelling won’t cut down on the Ozzy Osbourne references...even spelled with an IE I get just as many Ozzie and Harriet jokes as I do Ozzy Osbourne jokes.
And plus...don’t, PLEASE, don’t use "Oz" unless you know the person real well.
