Cara vs. Kara vs. Pronunciation

I have a pronunciation question. My name is Kara and it has always been pronounced as care-uh. Except everyone initially calls me car-uh. Which name do you initially associate with this pronunciation? Or do you think that both Kara and Cara can be pronounced as both car-uh and care-uh? Which do you prefer? Thanks

Unless somebody told me otherwise, I would say care-uh for both.

Depends where you are from, UK it will always be pronounced Car-uh with either spelling. USA i think it depends which area. I prefer car-uh and i don’t personally see how care-uh comes from Cara there is no e in it.

MY knee-jerk reaction is to pronounce Kara "cahhr-uh" and Cara "Cair-uh," but both pronunciations are correct for both spelings.

I would pronounce both "care-uh," but especially Kara. Cara could be either, but I would initially assume "care-uh."

It’s pronounce "care-uh." The spelling doesn’t change that. Who looks a the name "Sara/h" and pronounce it "zar-uh?"

Usually, I’ll pronounce Kara CAR-uh and Cara CARE-uh unless the person says otherwise. In my experience, that’s how the spellings and pronunciations are.

Kára Norse pronounced Car-rah
The way your name is spelled Kara was most likely the English way which would be Care -Rah.

I would say depending on your preference of your own name go with the one you like.

My name is Kara. Pronounced Car-Uh. But my whole life people have pronounced it care-uh and seem to have a hard time pronouncing it my way when i correct them. Not sure why it seems easy to say either way. I dont get upset though i mean, it IS more commonly pronounced care-uh. Ive never met another who it the way i do which makes me feel unique. I feel either way is right it just depends on the way the kara likes it pronounced hehe

My name is Kara (pronounced Car-ruh). I'm 42 yrs old and almost my entire life people initially pronounce it Care-uh. Lately, however, more people pronounce it the way it was intended...maybe because of the Supergirl TV show! :)

I named my puppy Kara (car-uh). My sister refuses to spell her name with a K because she thinks Kara is pronounced as Care-uh. Therefore, my puppies name should be spelled, Cara. I am using Supergirl's name, Kara, as my winning debate!

My name is Kara and it is pronounced care-uh. My entire life people have mispronounced my name and called me car-uh. I went to school with a Cara, pronunciation care-uh, and her name was always pronounced correctly. In our last class together our Government teacher made a game out of when he could pronounce my name correctly while always correctly calling her name. One day my friend yelled out, "They are both named Cara!!! They are THE KARA'S"
We were The C/Kara's ever since.
I don't care if people say my name wrong. But if you are ever corrected, don't keep saying it wrong.

I named my Daughter Kara. Kar-A. We are Irish Scottish, Norse. She is 32 and to this day if you call her Care-uh, or any other Pronunciation she Blatenly Ignores you because her name is KAR-A. You cant be talking to her because she will correct you. It's like calling Rick, Richard and his Birth Certificate says RICK. Or calling a William Bill after he told you his name is William. Kar-A is her name. It's what we chose and her sister is Keeva..QUEE-VA. Also Correct for Irish.

I recently had a baby girl, named her Kara (kar-uh) I love the pronunciation this way. But I have guilt that people will call her Cara (care-uh) her whole life now.

I am "Kara," pronounced "Kare-uh" and I love it, but it annoys me when people call me "Car-uh." I get that it can be pronounced either way, though, so I just politely correct them and go on my way. Sometimes, I say "it's 'Kara—' rhymns with Sarah," so they know off the top.
Growing up in the '80's, I will say Kara was always pronounced the way I say my name, and Cara was always Car-uh. Easy peasy. It's only been in the last 5 or so years that people mispronounce it and it's usually the younger generation. If you're under 30, I can ready know you're mispronouncing it even before you say it and I'm ready to correct.
