We need help deciding between Isabeau and Isaboe. Also, do you think this name is too similar with a young cousin named Bodhi? What middle names do you think would be good with this name? Thank you.

Stick to the original spelling! Beau means beautiful boe does not

We know the original spelling, it’s just that we fell in love with the name because it was a character in a book - with the Isaboe spelling. I kind of prefer the look of Isaboe but I’m also a fan of original spellings. Thus the problem.

Thanks for your input!

I’ve been seeing this name a lot lately, and I’m just not that impressed with it. I understand that it’s the Spanish? or French? version of Isabelle or whatever, but the beau just makes it sound masculine IMO, or maybe like caribou? It just sounds odd to my ears.

I think isaboe is too similar to bodhi! Sorry. I have never heard this name before so I’m not sure if it is for a girl or boy but you might want to consider isadore or Isadora. GL

Isabeau is already pretty rare so to make it into Isaboe can just make your daughters life harder then it has to be. No one would understand what you were trying to do unless they read book you read, and they will probably think you’re trying to hard to be unique.

If it’s so rare and no one has any preconceived ideas about the name - how is spelling it differently a problem? She’ll need to spell it out for people anyways. If I heard the name Isabeau/Isaboe, I would assume it was spelled Isabo, which is obviously closer to the BOE spelling.

I really like the name, I just worry that people would misunderstand it to be Isabel.

Never heard of it & thought it was a boy. Weird name...no matter how you spell it. Isabelle/Isabel/Isabella sounds much more feminine.

Isaboe -- I love this name. I pronounced Isabeau "Iz-uh-byew;" not sure if that’s correct, but I definitely prefer Isaboe’s spelling anyhow.

P.S. Isaboe is the name of the queen of Lumatere in Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta. :)

I love the name Isaboe. Follow your heart. If you love it use it. If you don’t, you’ll be sorry. Trust me. Good luck.
