How to vs. spell Abbie?
I have decided on the name Abigail for my daughter, and she will likely go by the nickname Abbie. However, I’ve seen so many spelling of this name, and i don’t know which one is the best/most common/would cause the least problems. I’ve seen: Abbie, Abby, Abbey, Abi, Abbi, Abie, Abey, Abee, Aby, and Abbee. Which is your favourite. My other children are Charlotte nn Lottie, Nathaniel nn Nate, Juliet nn Jules, and Amelia nn Amy, if that makes any difference.

Which is your first instinct? I think Abby is the most common, so that’s the one people would probably assume.

I like Abbie best. But I really don’t think the spelling of a nickname is a big deal. Don’t worry about it

I don’t really have any instinct, or any preference, which is the issue haha. I thought I’d see what other people’s thoughts were, since I figure that I’ll mostly be speaking her nickname, whereas other people will write it down more often.

Abby is the most common. It’s also what I would use. Abbie is my second choice. My spell checker marked Abbie as spelling incorrectly, but not Abby, if you want to take its opinion into account :)

If her name is going to be Abigail I would go with Abi cause it’s the first three letters:)

My name is Abby. It’s just Abby, not Abigail. I like how is spelled and I also like Abbey, but I don’t like anything with an I. As an adult, my name has never been a problem, but I did have a million other people with my name as a child. That won’t be a problem for your Abby though!

Abby or Abbey. I don’t like any of the other spellings. Abby would probably cause the least spelling issues, but Abbey has a more unique look. Chances are, though, that if you name her Abigail (and not a shortened version) she will spell Abby however she likes when she gets older.
