Mya vs. Myah vs. Other?
I took a baby name poll for girl names at my baby shower yesterday. Of the 5 names on my list, most everyone at the shower picked the name Mya. On my "shower poll", I included several different spellings of the name (i.e., Mya, Maya, Maia, Myah, etc.). Mya was the #1 choice (Myah #2) because people thought the spelling and pronunciation was more obvious. And I agree. On this site, most poeple suggest using Maya or Maia. I am just curious why. I have a last name that is difficult to pronouce and spell, and do not want my daughter to have the same problem with her first name. We love the name Mya and want to use it, so please share your comments and/or any issues you see with the name spelled Mya or Myah? Thanks in advance for your comments.

There’s a slight chance that people would see Mya = Mia. I think Maya/Maia is the more "normal" spelling of the name and might be more easily recognized by people.

I just think Maya and Maia look prettier, and they’re more original, I believe. Maia has been around for a long time, and I saw Maya a lot before I ever saw my first Mya. To me, Mya just looks like you left out a letter, and Myah looks bizarre, like a misspelling. But, seriously, go with whatever you like best. Your opinion matters more than anyone else’s.

To me, ’Maia’ and ’Maya’ would be pronounced May-ah, and ’Mya’ and ’Myah’ would be pronounced My-ah. Mia is pronounced Mee-ah. I’m not real sure how you are planning to pronounce the name. I’m like Mya if that is how you want it pronounced.

Depends on how you want to pronounce it.
If you want to pronounce it Mah-yah, than i’d go with ’Maya’. This is the easiest way to pronounce this spelling, IMO. It can also be pronounced as May-ah or My-ah.
If you want to pronouce it May-ah, than I’d go with ’Maia’.
For My-ah, I’d go with Mya.
And for Me-ah, I’d go with Mia.

Thanks for all the input. I would like to pronounce it My-ah, so it seems that the best may to spell it is Mya.

I like Miya, too.
I like Maya. That is just how I usually see the name spelled and it seems the easiest and simplest way to me. I don’t understand the Maya stuuf b/c of the Maya Indians.

Myah is my preference..
I also find Maia holds appeal for me due to its phonic, and therefore imo spiritual, relation with Gaia.
