Leah vs. Pronunciation
I am considering using the name Leah Tamar for my first daughter, but I was wondering how the majority of people would pronounce this name. I say it LAY-uh, not LEE-uh(probably because I am Jewish). Will this pronunciation be too problematic with the rest of the world outside our family/synagogue? Thanks for your input! -Ruby and Jake Cohen

Leah is definitely not said Lee-uh in the Torah, maybe in the secular world/ to goyim. The hebrew spelling is לֵאָה(which I just realized you probably can’t read…). Anyways, I can see that she would have to constantly correct it and I don’t want people to think she is named after princess Leia. Thanks for your opinions!

Lee-ah is how I pronounce it. I know a few ppl with the name that pronounces it the same. But I guess it just depends on where you live or how you would like it be pronounced.
Lena or Leta might be nice options for you

My Hebrew name is Leah Esther, my actual name is Carolina nn Lina. Although I would prn Leah as Lay-ah, I would because I’m Jewish so that doesn’t really solve your problem! I think Lena is a really nice alternative!
