Cathleen vs. Kathleen vs. What do you think?

My husband has always loved the name Katie, but I really don’t want it to stand on it’s own, I don’t really like Katelyn/ Caitlin all that much, so I came across Kathleen/Cathleen. So my question is do you like this name? Which spelling do you prefer? And I really do not like Kathy as a nickname- would this be a problem, or would people catch on to Katie? Thanks so much!

Katie can be a nn for Kathleen just as well as it can be for Katherine. I prefer the names spelled with a K. Katie is cute :)

Cathleen/Kathleen is ugly in my opinion. How about Katherine nn Katie? It’s classic and beautiful, and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge would be a great role model. :-)

I forgot to mention too that he also wants Irish names, so that’s why we’re thinking about Kathleen/Cathleen over Katherine :) thanks for the input and keep it coming please!

I really like Kathleen. I was considering it for my daughter. Not as common as Katherine and Caitlin and you don’t have to deal with the millions of spellings of Caitlin (Katelynn, etc. Ugh.) I prefer the K spelling.

Kathleen nickname Katie is actually one of my favorite names! I really love it, and I personally prefer it spelt with a K. I think it’s beautiful! :-)

I always prefer K names over C names, especially since you want Katie to be the nickname (’K’atie & ’K’atheleen). So I voted Kathleen. You won’t have any problem with Katie being her nickname. I do prefer Katherine, however, Kathleen is more unique so I do like it a lot!

Cathleen looks more feminine in spelling, but depends on full name..oh cathleen is not ugly either! My daughter is named Sophia Cathleen
