Cecily/Sicily vs. Please Read!

Hello all! My husband and I are expecting our first and it’s a little girl. We really want to name her Sicily after where we first met but it sounds so much like Cecily that we think it might be easier on her if we named her tha instead of Sicily (that way when asked about we name she wouldn’t have to say Sicily, like the city in Italy!) But we honestly have no clue if we should use the easier way or the way with more meaning. What do you guys think. We also need middle name choices, we love lovely princessy sounding names. We liked Sicily Annabelle for a while but our last name starts with a G and SAG just isn’t a pretty set of initials for our darling little princess! Please help us with which spelling and middle name suggestions! -Toria & Alex G. (And soon baby Cecily/Sicily!)

I only know one little girl named Cecily, and until her I had never heard the name. It’s very unique!

That being said, I would go with Cecily over Sicily.

- Cecily Annabelle
- Cecily Josephine
- Cecily Adelaide
- Cecily Genevieve
- Cecily Victoria
- Cecily Jane
- Cecily Vivienne
- Cecily Elizabeth
- Cecily Isabel

I really like Cecily as well and definitely agree it will be less annoying than always saying "like the one in Italy" Also its less tacky that way - here there’s a connection but you don’t have to explain it every time you tell someone your daughter’s name. Also then you can use Annabelle :)

I’m half Sicilian and I’ve been thinking of that name too. I think Sicily sounds beautiful and although I like Cecily it has less meaning for you. Also, as someone with a unique but beautiful name I mostly love explaining my name to people. It gives you something to talk about right when you meet, and even if sometimes I am over telling people where it comes from I consider it better than being a Jessica M, or Sarah G in every environment. The nice thing is that Sicily is easy to pronounce so people won’t have to ask about that. I like:
Sicily Arabella
Sicily Marie
Sicily Louise
Sicily Olivia
Sicily Tatiana
Sicily Teresa
Sicily Rosalie
Sicily Evelyn
Sicily Willow
Sicily Theodora
Sicily Timera
Sicily Patricia
Sicily Bianca
Sicily Nicolla
Sicily Jolie
Sicily Angelina
Sicily Fiona
Sicily Rose

I love both Sicily and Cecily. You can’t go wrong either way.

I love Cecily! Sicily I hear as "sissily" as in the adverb fom of sissy. Not a fan. If you want to be true to the place you met, you could do Sicilia (which would typically be written Cecelia). With such a long first name, I’d stick with a short middle name, like May, Claire, Faith, Kate, Joy, Wren, Beth, June, Jade, or Maeve.
