Kalei vs. Kalea vs. Kahea Kahea
Hi everyone! I have a quick naming questions for you. I am pregnant with a baby girl who will be born in May. I have always loved the name Kalei (Kah-lay-ee), but since I’m not Hawaiian I feel like it might seem a bit weird. Even though I have been living in HI for about 6 years now. I found the variant Kalea (Kah-lay-uh) and fell in love! The only problem is that my name is Alea (ah-lee-uh). Alea & Kalea don’t sound the same, but they look very similar. Are they too close for a mother and daughter? My other favorite name is Kahea (Kah-hay-uh).
The Top Baby Name is...
Kalei
Kalea
Kahea Kahea

I would butcher all those pronunciations, frankly. Those names won’t age well, plus they don’t flatter many personalities or appearances. Using a Hawaiian name is fine, if it sounds mildly normal outside of Hawaiian culture. Hawaiian names that are perfect for your baby girl:
Alana
Kaila (Ka-EE-luh or Kayla, if you want to Americanize it)
Alani
Daya
Dena
Halia (Huh-LEE-uh)
Lea
Lani
Malana
Mirena
Roselani
Good luck!

I have no idea what a jabberwocky is. Lol.
It’s alright if the name sounds a bit foreign because the only time we will be leaving HI is maybe for vacations every few years.
Thank you!
I get that a lot of mainlanders would "butcher" some of these names, but she can correct people on how to say it and she will be raised in Hawaii. I have corrected people on how to say/spell my name (first AND last) my whole life and it didn’t bother me, it just became normal. I’m not looking for suggestions, thanks though! If I don’t name her Kalea, then I will name her Kahea.

Kalea is better than Kahea because it can use the nick name Lea which would be easily understood for "mainlanders".

Kalei makes me want to start quoting the Jabberwocky: "oh joyous day kaloo kalay..."
Kahea is okay, but might be considered a bit foreign outside of Hawaii.
