Eleanor is Eleanor. I would say Elinor the same and assume the person who spelled it that way was cre8tiv. Then I would laugh in my head.

I pronounce Eleanor and Elinor exactly the same and I’ve never heard anyone say el-ah-nor. I prefer Eleanor although I definitely wouldn’t spell it Ellienor though, at least Elinor is a legitimate Scottish spelling.

Eleanor and Elinor are pronounced the same. My great-grandmother’s name was Elinor and I named my daughter Eleanor after her. I didn’t know that her name was spelled Elinor until my uncle mentioned it at my daughter’s christening. My daughter’s birth certificate had already been registered and after some thought I decided I wouldn’t have spelled it Elinor anyway because there would be few spelling problems for my daughter with the Eleanor spelling.

I think the pronunciation is somewhere in between the two you indicate. I’d say both spellings virtually the same. Any difference is extremely subtle. Having said that, I like Elinor best. And, poster #1, Elinor is not a "cre8tiv" spelling. It’s perfectly legit...

Obviously the first poster has never read Sense & Sensibility, or has heard of Elinor "Lin" Ostrom .
I prefer Elinor, but agree that people will pronounce either version as they are used to it. Example, my name is Jenny, but many people say Jinny.

Honestly, I would say Elinor and Eleanor the exact same way...El-uh-nor. I prefer the Eleanor spelling. Elinor just looks kind of odd to me.
