Cadence vs. Boy Name?
Do you think Cadence can be a boy name? As a middle name or paired with a very "manly" middle name? Nicknames would be Cade. Please don’t suggest Clarence or Caden as other names. I want to know about Cadence right now. And no matter your opinion please be polite! :) Thank you!

My brother named his son Kadenz. My daughter goes to school with a little boy named Cadenze. (They are both pronounced Cadence. I don’t know why the "Z"). My SIL got it out of a book. I think it’s German.

It’s Latin actually. It means rhythm or beat, it’s a very musical name but I prefer just Cade.

That’s heartening to know (poster one)! I personally like it spelled without the Z (like above) so that’s how I’d most likely spell it.

I like it without the Z also. I didn’t know it was Latin. My SIL is of German heritage so I just assumed it was German.

I think it could work for a boy. I prefer it as a middle name though.

technically Cadence IS unisex!
you could name him Cadence Andrew,
Andrew means manly by definition. Hope I helped :)

Since Cadence was a word first, not a name, I think it’s fine for either gender. It doesn’t have a particulary girly sound or meaning so I don’t see why not. Personally I prefer to avoid unisex names, but if you are ok with unisex (people not knowing his gender just by reading his name on paper), then I’d say go ahead. I like the sound of it.

I prefer Cadence on a girl. But it’s a word name so technically it’s unisex. It would work on a boy, but I just like it better on a girl.

Thank you everyone! I love word names and I really like Cadence but I wasn’t sure if it was so common on girls that it was unusable for boys. So thank you all very much!

I think it’s unisex, and will obviously appear more masculine when paired with a strong middle name. Go for it!

I just think Cadence sounds super girly, and have seen people use Cadence as a girly alternative for Caden.

Yes, for boys. Cadence is a noun/word name. It looks and sounds masculine. Cade..Caden.

I named my son cadence and is middle name is Gray. I thought it sounded very masculine and I didn't even consider it being a girl name until my bf mentioned it. I still think it sounds masculine and I love the name for a boy. I love the meaning of the name and that's why I chose it. It especially made sense because my husband works in the music field so cadence was a perfect name.

Conversely, it looks and sounds so feminine to me that I'm surprised anyone gives it to boys. "Cade" and "Caden", sure. Not "Cadence" though. Same as Candice, Alice, Florence, Beatrice, etc.
