I would pronounce Leighton like Lee-ton & Layten like Lay-ton. IMO, Laighton is just another spelling problem. I like the spelling Leighton best, but only if you were pronouncing it Lee-ton. Congrats & GL!

LAY-ton is traditionally spelled Leighton. Anyone who says LEE-ton is downright wrong. Spell it Leighton and save your baby a headache later in life.

I think they’d all be pronounced Lay-ton. Personally, I think the spelling Layton is the most handsome. But Leighton can work, too. You might want to avoid Laighton and Layten because he’d be correcting the spelling all the time with those and that can get old fast.

thanks for your thoughts and feedback- is Leighton primarily a boy? this is for a girl- thank you ! Courtney

Like most boy names, it’s used for both genders. But it’s traditionally male and you’re daughter would get called "he" and "him" a fair amount with this name. Layla or Leia might be better options if you want it to be clear that she’s a girl.

I’ve mainly seen Leighton on girls and Layton on boys.

I’ve heard it on more girls than boys, and Leighton is the correct spelling.

Leighton is "LAY-tun." No need to misspell it. Good luck! :0)

Here are some more L girl names. I would only use Leighton for a boy, but apparently it’s a girls name too. :)
