Ways vs. To spell vs. Isla

I adore the name Isla (Eye-la) but I hate the spelling. Most people I ask think it is (Ees-la or Is-la) Is there any other spellings that make more sense?

Everyone around here spells it Isla and pronounces it (Eye-la)....I think I’d keep the traditional spelling unless you really hate how it looks.

I wouldn’t worry about everyone mispronouncing Isla. It’s a gorgeous name, and most people know how to say it.

I love Isla and this spelling. If you really hate how this spelling looks, Ila or Eila are the only other spellings I could come up with right now.

BEAUTIFUL NAME BY THE WAY VERY UNIQUE YET SIMPLE.

Definitely Isla - I don’t know anyone who would spell or pronounce it different. The other spelling alternatives just make it more confusing and she will have to spend her entire life correcting people. If you hate the spelling I would pick a different name.

Everyone knows how to pronounce island. I can’t imagine why Isla would be a problem.

Do you hate the spelling because you hate it, or because your frustrated at other people’s difficulty with its pronunciation? "EES-luh" is a legitimate pronunciation for a Spanish speaker. So if you live in a Spanish speaking community and don’t like it as "EES-luh" then Isla may not be for you.

Please don’t alter the spelling. Some Gaelic names cry out for an Anglicized form, like Caoilfhionn (Keelin). But Isla isn’t one of those. So buck up. Either gird your loins and use Isla as is, knowing that you’ll have to correct some people’s pronunciation. Or don’t use it at all. Good luck! :0)

I’d most likely go with Isla I think it is pretty spelled this way, but I see a few comments I do like!
Eila, Iylah, Aila..

Choose another name entirely. Isla is too pretty to butcher it’s original spelling.

I like the spelling isla or ayla

Some of you people are wildly rude and inconsiderate. This word has an entirely different meaning and pronunciation in the Spanish language - Isla means island and is pronounced "Ees-la". Some humans actually live in diverse communities and would be concerned about misinterpretation.

My name is Illa Jane. I am 78 years old. I don't think anyone would have used ISLA at that time. I say why bother with all the misspellings and mid- pronouncements. Just use Ayla, Ila or Illa. End of story

I would do
Eila
Eilah
Eyla
Eylah
