Jorge is pronounced like vs. "George" vs. "Hore-Hay"
We were advised to use the variation Jorge but I would like to see how the majority pronounces the name first to ensure it is the right name we actually wanted to hear. We love the sound of one while the other makes us sort of cringe so this is quite important. I’m hoping this will clear everything up so we can focus on finding a first name for our son. So which do automatically read Jorge as? "George" or "Hore-hay"? Thank you~ Billy and Sonya

It depends on what culture people are or what they think you are. Jorge is hore-hay in most Latin cultures, however, it is pronounced George in Brazilian and Portuguese culturs. If I saw it written I would ask the person their preference.

It really depends on the person. I know someone with the name Jorge, but he refers to himself (and family refer to him) as both "George" and "hore-hay." Either is fine.

Hor-hay but maybe that’s because it’s my last name. Most people call me Mrs. George however but that may just be because they see my fair skin.

I automatically think, "HOR-hay." But since you’re using it as a middle name who really cares? The only ones saying it out loud will be you and your son. Pronounce it "George" and call it good if that’s what you want. :0)
By the way, I’m enjoying all the updates and feedback. You are making these polls so much more fun than the usual zero feedback ones. Thanks!

Hi, there! I offered Androcles (nn Andro?) at a previous poll as an alternative to Andronicus. But the poll was pretty old by the time I saw it. And I still love Ivor too. You’ll just have to have more man cubs. :0)

When I first saw the name it was a character in a book, and at first I pronounced it "George", but then asked my mom and she said the correct pronunciation s "Hor-Hay". I prefer the name and pronunciation George.

We do want George but in my family Jorge is a family name pronounced "George" and it’s a tradition as a whole to have a J name for the males. We want to revive it as a middle name but was nervous as I know the correct pronunciation for it is Hor-hay. I’ll just stick with Jorge though. It has a lot of meaning and it is better than our old idea of Jeorge lol
@FredaCat I do like Androcles! I didn’t get to see it and I’m glad I did. Haha Bill would be psyched and I’d surely go neurotic. Boys names are hard! Lol

It would definitely be pronounced Hore-hay, as it is a spanish name. It would kind of just look ignorant to purposely try to make it sound like George.
